Golden Update + Ermine 1.xxx is good enough.

I got a few setbacks recently.

1. USB GPS dongle isn't recognized. It appears it's true for any Android device.
2. IVONA text-to-speech doesn't work. I sent all relevant info to developers.
3. Netflix 1.4. Netflix says they continue to work on the player.
4. Barcode readers. I tried all (and I mean each single one) avaialble on the Market. All but one require "autofocus" which PE doesn't have and they crash. And the one which doesn't require autofocus does not crash but still can't recognizes barcodes.

Please if you have any info regarding any one of them let me know. Thanks.

USB support has been introduced with Android 3.1 and "upside-down" portion of it backported to 2.3.4 - no dice for us.

I used to use

adb install

to install all apps.

But found a quirk in it recently:

I have Ermine 1.01 which includes Youtube as system app.
While trying to update Youtube to newer version using adb I got a message saying the app already installed.
adb uninstall does not work for system apps.
To alleviate the problem I just copied new apk to the device and installed it using ES File Explorer.

The other possible solution is to move Youtube.apk from /system/app to /data/app in the next version of Ermine 1.xxx. This can be useful for brand new users of PE/EE.

Today I would drop 1.01.001 and 1.02 from the first post: no gains whatsoever compared to 1.01.

I cannot upgrade to Ermine. Tried usb and sd. No luck. It does not seem to grab the update code, yet it is update.zip in the root directory.

The device can be picky with drives sometimes.

First ensure that it is formatted FAT32 (not NTFS or FAT).
Try other devices.

Make sure windows isn't tacking on an additional .zip extension. Go to View-> Folder Options -> UNCHECK Hide extensions for known file types

How did you get Ermine 1.xxx to hook up to google? All I want is mail! It won't connect to my account no matter what I do.

Go sign in via the youtube app and using your gmail acct and you will be good to go

Once recovery is sorted, I will try anything. Borked one, golden recovery is crippled recovery.
