According to the announcement over on the amazon kindle forums, the library lending is 'part of' the update to 3.3 (no word on what else, if anything, is included). The same announcement says that library lending is enabled only for Seattle so far as a final beta.

Looks like I need to uninstall all my hacks and get ready for an update on my K2. What is the most recent version of the K2 software?

will my kindle update automatically since I don't have wifi service? Or would I need to download any update and do it through usb? I'm still on 3.1 I understand that I won't be able to have any library books go directly to my Kindle but will have to load them through usb. True? Bergette |

In this case, it's not so much a case of avoidance of a particular format for no good reason as it is a case of what is simpler and more economical for Amazon. Amazon already has the book files on their servers in the .azw format. Why pay a fee to Adobe for its DRMed epub file if Amazon already has a copy of its own? The ability to save library book annotations is unique to Amazon, isn't it? I doubt that the format has anything to do with this feature since plenty of epub readers allow annotations, so the big difference seems to be that the books are coming from Amazon's server rather than Overdrive's. Again, it makes more sense to Amazon to just use the files that it already has in its possession. |

Im running v3.1 with the screensaver hacks...I was able to borrow a library book from the Broward County library system (Florida)...so i dont think version 3.3 is necessary for that (at least in my case)
