Some things I will still read in paper right now. Some things aren't available as e-book as well. When it comes to pulp fiction, I'll stick mainly to an e-reader. Frankly the binding of many paperbacks is just crappy to read with so the e-reader is a hands down winner.

People aren't going back to vinyl or casettes, and CDs are quickly becoming 'archaic'. I don't see e-readers falling out-of-fashion, but simultaneously I can't see books going completely away either.

Currently, there are things that are easier to read in paper-format (e.g., books which require regular referencing of maps). Others will continue to be read in paper out of necessity (e.g., Atlases) unless their users embrace replacement technology (e.g., online maps instead of physical media).

I never want to see the backside of e-readers...I simply want to see them improve again and again.

I'm keen to see where colour e-ink goes. A 10 or 12" colour e-ink reader would truly appeal to fans of graphic novels.

I haven't bought a CD since I bought my first MP3 Player. Why should I buy and keep track of CDs when I can carry all of my music, in my pocket, where ever I go. I do not even listen to the radio any more. I use my MP3 Player in the car. I even canceled my Sirius account.
Now I can carry all of my books with me, where ever I go. There are just to many advantages to an ebook to want to go back. I just wish I had had this during my traveling years in the '80s.

I haven't given up on paper. There are still things I own in paper or borrow from the library. I'm buying a paper book at the end of the month because my wife and I want to read it at the same time without buying two copies.

So I can't go back to paper because I haven't left, but I'm not giving up my e-reader either.

I still buy my music mostly in CD format. I do so for the purpose of ripping to high-quality, losslessly compressed FLAC for listening on the home audio system, albeit, I also do make copies in 256Kbps AAC for use with portable devices.

But that's just what I find an advantage of the Kindle. My husband has one on my account and we share books, often reading the same one at the same time. BK (Before Kindle) I bought most of the books and he either nicked them before I had a chance to read them or he complained about being passed on my dog-eared and annotated copies. And I should add that once he had a book I was lucky ever to see it again. He is sort of black hole for books.

I suppose with me it's sheer gluttony. Having a hundred or so books on my reader with many more on Calibre gives me this warm, secure feeling. The next best thing to a comfort blanket I suppose. And no, I don't think I'd ever want to go back to paper.

Me too. Husband actually calls my eReader my "security blanket". He's not far off.

Same thing for me and my girlfriend. Our readers are on a shared account. Few months back she got the Song of Ice and Fire books, and we both read them at the same time. Only needed to buy one copy.

(also, so you know, that isn't limited to Kindles.)

Having just come home after a brief trip up to Sydney (one and a half hour's flight from Melbourne), I have discovered the one drawback of an e-reader. You spend quite a bit of time not being allowed to read because all electronic devices must be turned off during take-off and until the seatbelt sign goes off, and then again when it goes back on for the descent. Hard to believe an ereader in Airplane mode could cause any problems, but those are the rules.

It adds up to quite a bit of time on a short flight and I was wishing I had brought a paper book with me instead. But for a longer flight and of course a longer time away, it's so much easier with an ereader than carrying a few books with me.

I have quite a lot of paper books as yet unread, so will be reading both paper and e books for quite some time to come. But I do love the ease of reading with an ereader.

Since I am over the age of 50 I find that the ereader is the best thing for me as I can increase the font size. Paper books make my eyes go funny. Ereader all the way for me.
