I'm trying to work out some ideas for a Steampunk book for NaNoWriMo at the present. I found a good book at Amazon that talks about what sort of things are needed (in addition to a good story) to make it work.

Just be sure and throw in an Analytical Engine and you are set! ![]() (read the section of Gleick's "The Information" on Babbage and Ada Loveless yesterday) ![]() Last edited by Dr. Drib; 09-20-2011 at 03:34 PM. |

Current Project
I'm working on the first of what I hope will be a series of books for adolescents. It's about a 14 year old girl inventor and her friends. It's called Astrid Maxxim and her Amazing Hoverbike.
I was musing about how much I was inspired by the writers I read when I was young-- Edgar Rice Burroughs, first and foremost. Then I thought about the years before that, when I was first learning to enjoy reading, and remembered my love for the Tom Swift Jr. Books. I thought I would try to recreate the feeling I had when I read them. I really get excited about writing when the characters and background just seem to jump out at me, and that is the case here. I expect to be done around November. |

Sounds interesting, Wes. I'm looking forward to reading that one, and being as it's aimed at YA, I may turn my grandson on to it as well.

I'm working on the last round of edits on a book I have coming out in November, but I'm also outlining a novel I've had in my head for over a year. I have a lot of ideas, but I can only ever work on one project at a time, otherwise I get overwhelmed.
Regardless of what I'm working on, it's always fantasy. I've tried other genres, but there's something about fantasy that keeps pulling me back, so I stopped fighting it ![]() |

I'm working on a traditional mystery (whodunnit) set in Whistler, BC - the third in my Hunter Rayne highway mystery series. The first (Slow Curve on the Coquihalla) is available on-line, and I expect to have the second published to Amazon and Smashwords by year end after polishing it up for the third or fourth time.

I recently finished a romantic suspense novel and I am currently working on something that is more the mystery type. I hate to admit it, but I am finding this one a bit harder to write. I am hoping to have it complete within a couple of months, as I am in the revision stage.

I'm trying. Can't seem to successfully enter this great new world of ebooks. I'm an author and self publisher of ancient times, the 80s and 90s. I've print published about 6 books, sold over 300,000 books, most now out of print, not because they stopped selling, but because I can no longer do the dance with printers, in shipping, storage, marketing, out shipping, etc. I'm currently following the highways, byways, and outhouse trails of ebook formatting. I'm still lost in the wilderness but I can see the roof of the outhouse over the next hill. I have about a dozen books in manuscript that I plan to get on Amazon as soon as i learn how to do it, get past that "we can't upload your book right now, try again later" and some very frustrating blank pages and inappropriate page breaks. I also have very little luck figuring out how to post on forums. I'm not sure that this one will go through, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to ever find it again if it does. So wish me luck...

My next book is currently titled "A Fleet in Being: The Austro-Hungarian Navy of WW1". The title may change before it's published - I always struggle with titles.
