No, but only because Amazon has saved me from doing so more times than I care to admit . "Single source" book buying has significant advantages in that regard.

No, but I've done so on purpose. Some of the ebooks on sale for $0.99~2.99, I've bought copies in both Amazon Kindle format and Adobe ADEPT-DRM ePub. I might not like the fact that Amazon has their own proprietary format but I have to admit Whispersync is darned convenient.

Assuming you have multiple Kindle readers (or devices with the Kindle app), Amazon syncs your reading location so you can easily pick up where you left off when you switch devices.

Whispersync is actually what Amazon called its 3G capability from day 1. Synching came into play with the K2s and I was using the term whispersync with my K1.

I used to do this with my DVDs all the time. Now I keep a list in EVERNOTE on my phone and iPad of DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs and Books that I have. The thing with books is I purchase collections by Genre and you will get repeats that way. With CDs I have a list of what I want but I may have a purchased single til I get the entire album.

Amazon's format is not proprietary. It's plain old box standard obsolete Mobipocket with a different DRM.

Whispersync is the thing that really can cause all kinds of hassle when you have multiple Kindles on one account and different people are reading the same eBook at the same time. So when you go to read, you end up on a different page then having to find out where you left off. Then when you do, you cause others to be on different pages.

Jon, have you ever owned a Kindle? Have you ever used a Kindle? Have you ever used Whispersync?

When you purchase a book online you are asked which device you would like to use. Each device, including apps, has its own name (which you can change as you see fit). If you are ordering directly through the Kindle, then it will go to that kindle. You can then go online and download it to the other kindle(s) or app(s). You are allowed to have up to 6 devices.apps per Amazon account.

And you can choose not to accept the syncing if you want. It is really easy. I box pops up saying "Such and such Kindle is on location X. Do you wish to sync?" And you choose "No". Then you don't change pages.

Not all that challenging.

You can add your pbooks to Calibre as "empty books" through the "Add Books" drop-down menu. Put in the title and author as usual, and even run metadata if you want.

I did that with all of my Honor Harrington story collections so that I could have the individual stories listed in chronological order. They don't shopw up on the Kindle, of course, but I can do a quick check through Calibre.

The last time I bought a pbook, I hadn't even heard of Calibre...
