I just recently discovered the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series and have been plowing through it. I'm currently about half-way through "A Feast For Crows". Fantastic books!

TBH I wasn't impressed with FDNS. The writing is good and all, but the stories themselves just didn't seem to resonate with me. Everything's Eventual has been good so far.

Just finished "Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick and I'm moving on to "Memories of Ice" by Steven Erikson.

MoI is probably my second favourite to Deadhouse Gates but I really like The Bonehunters as well.

Finishing up "Just After Sunset" by Stephen King, and probably moving on to "The Children of Hurin" by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Thanks to this thread, I found out about "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. I didn't think it would be my style at all, but I am really enjoying it. 340 pages down and 3200 (odd) to go. Yes in the end I bought the four book series.... That should outlast my long flight home from Japan to Perth via Sydney - (thanks to Qantas cancelling all the Perth - Tokyo flights after the Tsunami) Cheers John - and keep this thread going. It is a great way to find out about good books - perhaps it should be made a sticky??????

Currently reading Isaac Asimov's "Foundation and Empire" and will read "Second Foundation" after it. Dunno yet if I'll read "Foundation's Edge" and "Foundation and Earth" (they're not as good as the original three collections) - but I will *DEFINITELY* not be reading "Prelude to Foundation" and "Forward the Foundation" (them being concrete proof that Asimov should have stuck exclusively to short fiction; yes, I've read them before).

I am reading Under Their Thumbs by Bill German. I'm a huge Stones fan and had a subscription to the Beggars Banquet newsletter back in the day. This book is by the author of that newsletter. Awesome, awesome book!! |
