Starbucks Pick of the Week now includes Apps, eBook Samples, TV Shows

http://www.starbucks.com/blog/pick-o...-and-more/1064

Quote:
You asked and we listened. Our Pick of the Week program is getting a facelift! Starting on August 23rd, you’ll notice something new about the Pick of the Week cards: they’re not just music. We've expanded our free music download cards to also include Apps, extended samples of books on the iBookstore, TV shows, and more from iTunes.
Extended samples?

I like the concept. Wish that it extended to non-iThing users, as well.

The Apple-ego centric nature of Starbucks setup is appalling on it's best day. This makes it a lot harder to keep patronizing them as a business. But I only stop there for plain coffee or free internet. I guess I am letting Apple people keep me in free access so it is a positive really.

I like it.

Not for me.

I look for them over McDonalds for free wi-fi when I'm traveling. The temptation to gorge on calorie dense foods is so much less and they treat you so much better.

Got the first app-Shazam Encore. Shazam was one of the first apps I got for the iPhone, actually.

Ohh....yes, Starbucks, the paradise of hackers and credit cards thefts. ... lol ...

I visit Starbucks but those inside B&N stores. I usually read or check new books there before buying via Kindle and read in on same store. Kind of ironic, I know.

I've noticed, maybe because the day or hour , that some Mc Donalds have faster wifi than Starbucks. Average Starbucks on my area give me 1mbps. The Mc Donalds I've visited give you 2 or 3 Mbps, average.

By the way, Mc Donals frapuccino is cheaper and better, IMO.

Don't drink the stuff.

I make my own iced coffee at home. Nothing else compares.

Starbucks expanded their free "Pick of the Week" iTunes offerings this week, putting up their first ebook, Erin Morgenstern's "The Night Circus."

~~ snip ~~

After the offer debuted at Starbucks stores this week, customers reported that when they downloaded the book, they were given 330 out of 400 pages with the last page directing them to purchase the complete book.

"The 'Pick of the Week' card certainly does not say anywhere that it's just a sample. This is very disappointing..." wrote one customer on Starbucks' website.
Including the word "sample" on the card was probably cost prohibitive. I understand that Apple has the copyright on the letters "a-p-l-e" when they're all present in a single word.

I picked up the 'free' ebook card and then read about it being only a sample. I won't even start the book now. Glad I read about it only being a sample BEFORE I actually started to read the book.

Did your card indicate it was a sample or did you find out somewhere else?

I remember when they were doing that on B&N with a "free" copy of "Dawn of the Dreadfuls". Customers were livid, but apparently that lesson went unlearned.

No where on the card does it say it's a sample. At least I can't find it. I read about it on the web. After I read about it I went to the last page of the book and sure enough it says if you like the sample buy the book or something like that.

I actually did snag a copy of Tick Tock by James Patterson from B&N as a freebee. They offered it by mistake as a free one. It was supposed to be the sample that was the free one. They caught it pretty fast. Think it was only up for a few hours.
