Hi, i have a question to ask about uninstalling the jailbreak.
I had installed the jailbreak some time ago. But I need to return the kindle for exchange so i want to uninstall the jailbreak before that. I have already reset to factory defaults for the kindle. What else do i have to do to uninstall the jailbreak and how do i go about seeing which jailbreak i have? |

I doubt anyone would put a lot of effort into writing uninstall packages if the Reset function already did it. For the future, I've started adding on adding a directory w/ uninstallers on my Kindle, so I'll always have the correct uninstaller available, since this question comes up often. |

Hi,
after I successfully installed the jailbreak/usbnetworking/screensaver hack on my 3.2.1 Wifi US Kindle, the screen broke and now I have a 3.1 (still B008, but this time it shipped from Germany as that's where I currently am). I *think* I successfully installed update_jailbreak_0.5.1_k3w_install (it ended with U004), but I can't install any of the other hacks (like the screensaver or usbnetwork hacks) - they all end with U007. ![]() Is there anything special I have to consider with this older version? Do I have to use older versions of the hacks? Thanks in advance! Last edited by Markstar; 09-16-2011 at 11:36 AM. |

@tofubean/@pdagenius: No, you need to run the uninstallers (of course, the jailbreak being the last thing you need to uninstall), a reset to factory defaults won't uninstall the hacks, it'll just disable them.
@Markstar: Yifanlu's 0.5.1 won't run on anything other than FW 3.2.1, which explains what you're experiencing ![]() |

Looks like a new update for K3 (and KSO) coming up -- an excerpt from an Amazon announcement.
"The functionality for receiving AmazonLocal deals on Kindle with Special Offers will be delivered as part of a software update for latest generation Kindles in the coming weeks. " Could affect jail breaks. Last edited by greyTraveler; 09-16-2011 at 03:03 PM. Reason: Clarify why I posted |

Thanks for the replies. About uninstalling the jailbreak, I have forgotten which version i had used but my kindle shows it's on version 3.1 (5587000031). Will the current 0.9.N uninstaller work for previous versions as well? I also have the fonts hack installed. Uninstalling the jailbreak will remove this as well?
And is uninstalling the same process as installing the jailbreak (just that i use the uninstall bin file instead of the install bin file)? Sorry for the numerous questions. Afraid that i'll bork something up so i need some step by step instructions. |

@tofubean: Provided you were using *this* jailbreak, then, yes, the latest uninstaller will handle previous versions. But you'll have to uninstall every other hack *before* uninstalling the jailbreak (because, yeah, it's the same process as an install, so if you uninstall the jailbreak first, you won't be able to run the other uninstall bin files).

I think i have uninstalled everything... Had to install the jailbreak and font hack again because i couldn't seem to use the uninstallers after i did reset to factory defaults. After uninstalling font hack and jailbreak, I have to manually remove the linkfonts and linkjail folders though. Seems to me the reset to factory defaults actually deleted the folders and disabled the jailbreak. I couldn't see any difference in my kindle folders after factory defaults and after i uninstalled manually.
Anyway thanks again! |

When you did it, you went from 2.5.8 to 3.2? Can you link back to what you did exactly? Is it the end of updates on the your Kindle?as how you're not using the DXG updates. |

@lgvenable
First of all, I want to correct my Kindle Firmware information. I have Kindle 3.1 (558700031) on my Kindle DX Graphite. I used Yifanlu's technique (Kindle 3.1 software for Kindle 2, 2i, & DX) with my friend Kindle 3 (with 3.1 software) Global Wireless to provide software 3.1 on my DXG. |

Can you confirm that usbNetworking on K. 3G: 3.2.1 (B006) with installed: update_jailbreak_0.9.N_k3g-3.2.1_install.bin update_usbnetwork_0.34.N_k3g_install.bin should work? I've installed that, I can telnet K. with 192.168.2.2 address, I can make any changed to filesystem (after mntroot rw) ect. but if I try to ping anything from telnet nothing works except 192.168.2.1. At the same time on Kindle internet is working. I've checked all forums, tried different solutions and nothing. I bet when I discover mistake it would be simplest thing ever :/ |

@samezrp: I can't see anything wrong with what you're describing. Anything more would be bordering/breaching Amazon's TOS regarding Whispernet. (Unless you forgot to mention that you were using the tethering support included in usbnet [ie. using the computer's wan on the Kindle, not the other way around], in which case I can't help you, because I've never used them. To the best of my knowledge, they *should* work, though).

As I understood (correct me if I'm totaly wrong) after enabling usbnetwork I can connect to Kindle via telnet and I should have possibility at least to ping external addresses.
Is there anything more I can check why it is not working? |
