They both spent a lot of time trying things on in the shops. I mean a LOT of time. Both of them would spend a large portion of their disposable income buying 'better quality' items, but even then, the real secrete to their success (and by 'success' I mean the lingerie created exactly the effect that was wanted,) was the time they spent trying on different styles to find just the pieces that looked right on THEM, not on the models in the catalogs. If your guy is worth it, take the time to do it right. Otherwise it comes off looking like cheap 'Fredrick's of Hollywood' costume stuff. Stitchawl |

And let's update KK on the right topic. KK, you remember Ivy? She's engaged.

I'm all for buying nice quality lingerie, but "spending a lot of time trying on lingerie in the shops" just has an icky factor to me. Have you SEEN those videos exposing how the lingerie shops put returned used and dirty items back on the hangers for the next person to buy? (I think it was on 20/20 or a similar show a year or so ago.) :shudder:

Then I lived in several countries were it's common for people to take 3-4 showers a day, and now in a country were people will scrub themselves vigorously for 15-20 minutes with washcloths with the texture of steel wool, rinsing and re-soaping and scrubbing again and again BEFORE getting into a bathtub so the water stays clean... There are even UV Light sterilizing shelves for shared slippers now! Yet they seem to sell as much Athlete's Foot Powder and Anti-Itch cream here as they did in the US. Grandma said 'no mater what, we have to eat a pound of dirt before we die...' Stitchawl |

REALLY GROSS!!! And downright underhanded by the stores. But... that's my own 'cultural' take on the situation. Would it stop me from buying "new" underwear? I doubt it. (I would give it a 'sniff test' though. ![]() It is VERY common to find used underwear being sold (as used underwear) in flea markets and yard sales in the US, as well as used lipstick... and of course, all over Third World Countries too, which means there are plenty of people who don't mind buying someone else's... else's... I'm at a loss for words here! ![]() Personally, I won't knowingly purchase used underwear. I do, however, recognize a difference between something taken home and worn for a few days and something simply tried on for size in a store. As a consumer, I'd like to be sure of what I buy. But I do realize that many of the things I try on in shops have been tried on by others. I realize that I run the risk of a multitude of skin diseases, parasites such as lice, etc., and fungal infections just from trying on a shirt. It's a dirty world out there... but I need to know that my Speedo looks good on me, and that my thong doesn't bind... ![]() Stitchawl |
