Newegg has preorders with a release date of 10/02 also. At least the dates are consistent. Maybe we don't have much longer to wait.

I see your point, but how does the widget offer security? I've always considered email+password things (in my case I have account number+randomly generated security number) to be extra steps for people's own protection.

Thanks for the newegg link. I just ordered the black one. I've always had great experiences with them and...no tax!!! Yay!

I hope bestbuy doesn't come along today or tomorrow and offer it for $100 lol.

You're welcome, DianNC. They are a trust-worthy site. I am picky about what sites I shop at and what I recommend. I doubt there will be many discounts in the beginning since Sony is pricing their product so competitively this time. I can't decide what color I like best. If it is glossy, then I'll probably skin it. I am also waiting to see if there will be a special Harry Potter edition (besides the first book coupon). I have high hopes that Sony will take advantage of this marketing opportunity (yes, I know, I will likely by disappointed). If Sony did a special cover for Eat, Pray, Love, then surely they can do something creative for HP fans...

I didn't even think about waiting to see other HP offers. Hmmm. I actually like the red one better, but I think I'll stick with the black and get the coupon for the book.

BTW I bought a PRS-350 at Frys today....in pink. Haven't opened it up yet, but it's cute

I think it's a safe assumption that the 350 & 950 are discontinued. I have the pink the 350 & matching case. It is very cute!

I preordered from Future Shop as there is no problem with cancelling or returns there and shipping is fast.

But if it hits the stores first I may just have to run out and buy one. We will see

No, it was an impulse buy - $139 at Frys. I'd dashed in to see if they had any good deals on Micro SD cards lol.

I thought I might load it up with books and give it to my sister, but I want her to have something a little bigger so I might give her my NC. OMG it's going to be hard to part with that thing lol. Or, maybe I'll give her the Harry Potter Sony and keep my Nook.

Discounted not discontinued!

I did a double-take there... wait she didn't answer.. oh wait, yeah she did!

I think $139 is a discount, as SonyStyle says $179. I got mine on the trade in thing, so I can't remember the price it was supposed to be.

Pie - I actually mistyped...Frys has the 350 for $129 (it was a total of $139 for me with tax), so you're right, that's definitely a discount.

The Sony Wiki lists the 350, 650 and 950 as being discontinued late this year, so maybe we'll see further price reductions. The 650 would be perfect for my sis, I think, but she'll also be happy with the newer one I ordered from newegg -- she's a bit of a Harry Potter nut lol.
