A $500 laptop is probably only lacking a dedicated video game that the $1500 gaming laptop has, and probably has half the ram. But netbooks are pretty gimped, which the rumors seem to indicate that this is. |

I don't understand what the point is of getting a tablet that can't do tablet things. Of course I don't really understand why people get tablets.
Lets review. Desktop PC. Can do anything you want as long as you buy the right parts. Laptop. Not as powerful as a desktop. Way more expensive. Was really used for doctors and people on the go. For some reason people buy them and complain about not being able to play X game that their friend can play on their desktop. (I get this all the time. Someone buying a 300 dollar laptop, and the complaining it doesn't do anything) Good for writers. Netbook. Not as powerful as a laptop. About as powerful as your phone. Can't play any games. Good for cruising the internet. Not good for writing because you neck would hurt craning to look at screen. Tablet. Useless. About as powerful as your cell phone. Can get into bed with it, but typing that way is uncomfortable. Not as portable as your cell phone. Not really aimed at anything. Apple just made one and marketed it right, then everyone copied them. Now the hype is all about them and THEY ARE USELESS. eReader. Not as powerful as a tablet. Supposed to be geared at reading, but the ones without e-ink are hard to read in sunlight. Can't do nearly as many things as the Tablet can, but people buy it and complain it can't. Kindle. Geared towards one thing and it does it well. Reading. Doesn't strain your eyes, does what it says it does. Decently priced. Why mess with something that works? I'll tell you why, because it isn't about researching a product anymore. it is about marketing. Right now if you attach ios or android on something, it sells. I hate it. I hate it so much I wish I had bill gates money to buy them all, then just shut them down. This is just a rant because if this article is true, I am very disappointed in Amazon. It is only my opinion and not even a fully thought out one because i am in a hurry to get to work. Please Amazon, don't make a half way functional tablet. Just continue to make the product we all fell in love with. On another note, who in the hell uses the DX model. It is way to big to be useful. |

You know futurebear, you need to come out of your shell and get comfortable expressing your opinions. Its a great way to win friends and influence enemies. ;-)
The fact that a device does not fit your functional needs does not mean that it does not fit someone else's functional needs. I like E-Ink. Do not like reading on a lit device such as an Ipad. Other people do not share my preference and find color a must. For them a dedicated tablet reader integrated into the Amazon ecosystem may be delightful. A DXG has a great pearl screen and a form factor that makes PDF's workable. For people with poor eyesight or with the needs to review scientific PDF's or, like me, who just like the larger page of text, it is a great solution. There are more things in heaven and earth, Futurebear, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. Quote:

If the thread was retitled to "Amazon Kindle Tablet", that would be accurate. It's not an Amazon Kindle as we know it. It's a tablet. The title makes it seem like a new eink Kindle is due in November.

For what its worth, I would buy an Amazon tablet/reader whatever over another company simply because Amazon has phenomenal Customer Service and I know if anything happens the company isn't going to try to screw me or give me the third degree.
But... If I have to pay for apps (like angry birds) that are normally free, I'll hack it. |

You're assuming (incorrectly) that Kindle = Eink. Just because it has so far doesn't mean it has to forever. And it clearly doesn't. Honestly, I don't know why you pick the fights you do.

And how could a company call itself Sun Computers when the sun is clearly in the sky.
