jailbreak yes after other hacks fonts greyed out
Hi
I did the jailbreak on my DX Graphite sucessfully (006 error), the installed dummy, ss, font, and usb hack. After reboot I see the fonts have changed, however they're greyed out. I went to the link below to update my DX fonts, but the update didn't take. After all was said and done I turned on wireless and tried to update and got an error (forgot code). I'm at 2.5.5 right now. Whats up with my fonts I only have one, all sizes and choices above screen rotation is greyed out. Tell me what I need to do please. BTW the jailbreak and everything worked great thanks :<)) https://sites.google.com/a/etccreati...works/dx-fonts |

OKduh
I installed the fonts as discribed in the linkfonts folder, and when in a book can change sizes. not greyed out. however now the font is the default, and I havent read each and every page, after overwritting all fonts with the downloads from:
http://www.ebookworm.us/2010/06/23/f...e-version-2-5/ How do I change the font from one to another? I also sucessfully applied 2.5.8 with no issues, loaded manually not via whispernet. |

@lgvenable: Assuming you're on a DXG running FW 2.5.x, there is *no* font family selection in the [Aa] menu, that's a FW 3.x feature.
You'll only ever be able to use *one* family in the reader, and you'll only be able to change it by switching the appropriate files in the linkfonts folder (namely, the Serif_ family), and then rebooting your Kindle. |

I'm confused, can you help?
I have 3.2.1 firmware and have installed Droid Serif fonts (just "Serif_" ones as that was all there was in the rar file). My ebook fonts appear NOT to have changed, but menus have. Prior to this a few weeks ago, I installed three sets of fonts (serif_, sans_ and mono_) and my Kindle went wonky and it could not display much of anything. I managed to restore the kindle to original settings (i did some stuff and typed RESET). What I would like to know is can firmware 3.2.1 successfully accept fonts so that the eBooks also change, and if so which font set is needed? I wonder why it did not work before, are some fonts not compatible? Last edited by Firedb; 09-10-2011 at 05:48 AM. |

@Gamezcdr: You can't. (At least on FW 2.x, and on FW 3.x, you can only play with what the UI already offers us [ie. basically telling the system that 'sans' should really be that pretty slab serif that you like instead of Helvetica]). But, basically, unless you know and understand what you're doing, don't bother, and just enjoy your 2 or 3 font choices. You can always switch them through the hack and a quick autoreboot.
@Firedb: As always, the only issues with FW 3.x is that the default FT lib seem to choke up on some fonts on some system (Hence the wonky behaviour, if it persists after a full reboot). You can either try to figure out why it does so and fix it by tweaking the font somehow, or use another font, or just enable any of the three FT override options available in the latest hacks (bci being the one most closely matching FW 3.x default rendering settings). Don't forget to reboot (or autoreboot) your Kindle after switching fonts. (And, yes, Serif_ indeed is the family used in vast majority by the reader, the menus are mostly using Sans_ [cf. this post]). A change in the FT override setting will take a full restart to be taken into account, though, an autoreboot won't suffice. Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-09-2011 at 10:17 PM. |

Thx NiLuJe, i readed that post (before my question) but that did'nt resolved my doubt. In fact, althought it can sound extrange, what i want to know is what fonts i must use in sans_ / serif_ / mono_ to left the kindle like it was not fonts hack installed, in other words, what fonts are being used by kindle in each case. I know that helvetica, but not very sure wich font for every replacemente case. Regards. |

Hi,
sorry for another silly question ... I have a K3G, Serial B00A..., Version 3.1 (558700031) Which jailbreak do I use? I tried K3GB. It installed but I can not install a Font hack, so I asume that the jailbreak did not intall actually. I restarted and made a forced restart ... |

Yep, maybe that will help ;o)
I tried this one with the link yifanlu for the Kindle 3.1 jailbreak! http://yifan.lu/p/kindle-jailbreak However that looks like for 3.2.1 firmware update Then I tried this one JailBreak v0.8.N (compatible with FW 3.2.1, thanks to yifanlu & serge_levin!). Only the v0.8.N looked on the Kindle as being installed. Afterwards i could not install the Font hack "kindle-fonts-4.7.N-k3.zip" Maybe I was not using the right jailbreak version? |

@elchamaco: The Kindle defaults is Caecilia as the Serif_ family, Helvetica as the Sans_ and KindleBlackBocx as the Mono_ family.
@Helgetus: Like mdagenius said, we're gonna need more details, namely, what exactly do you mean by 'could not install'. |

After putting the update file on the Kindle I update the kindle of course. The Kindle then restarts.
That is what I mean with it did not install the jailbreak. Obviously because the font hack wan "not installed" i.e. update was not possible. So I need to know which update file I have to use ... I tis not perfectly clear to me which one. Again I have a Kindle 3g, Serial B00A..., Version 3.1 (558700031) When I updated I first tried update_jailbreak_0.5.1_k3gb_install bin. put in root directory of the Kindle, unplugged it, menu-settings-menu-> update kindle was possible but did not update ... jailbreak 0.8N does update successfully however the font hack later does not update. Get an error message. Therefor I believe the jailbreak 0.8N did not install, because the 0.5.1 did not install. ... Last edited by Helgetus; 09-10-2011 at 12:31 PM. |
