I have 1109 books on my TBR list.
I am a readaholic. Two days ago I bought 7 books and three free books.
In the mid and late 80's I traveled for a living. I was mostly in a different location every day. I would have killed for an ereader back then. I was usually out for 6 to 8 weeks at a time with an all time high of 18 weeks. My luggage was always full of books. It was a good thing that airlines did not weigh my luggage back then. There were even a few times when I would box up and ship books home if I had to many.

Welcome to the thread.

We don't count free ebooks here, so that may help you to at least reduce the headline number of your TBR list .

Several strategies for coping with our addiction have been suggested.
  • Always download a sample (where possible) and read that before deciding whether to buy a book
  • Add books to your wishlist(s) instead of buying immediately
  • Post here when the urge to buy comes upon you
  • Remember that there's almost certain to be a sale or special offer before you'd get around to reading the book anyway.

You know, that is so mean! I'm not allowed to buy books but yet I must keep tabs on the sales on ebook shops in case that book I've been wanting to buy will be on sale! Otherwise, you'll see that when I get around to reading the book it's even more expensive than it ever was (or has gone completely, been there...)

Only one means the twelve-step program is working, but every day is a challenge. Given that I only read about three books a month on average, having a TBR list that's at five already puts me a couple of months behind.

[EDIT: Good Omens is out in ebook? Argghhh... must resist. Onto the wishlist, that's the thing!]
[EDIT2: Bother! Not in the UK.]
So far my strict budget is working for keeping spending down. Not in Canada either for Good Omens. Chapters gift card plus Amazon Kindle means paper books this time anyway unless I'm up for stripping DRM and converting, but I'm not. Don't Make Me Think is a book I'll probably include in some work presentations so I want a physical copy to post-it into oblivion.

I appreciate all the tips on avoiding the avalanche of books problem in this thread.

It's now been 24 days since I last bought some* ebooks. My TBR pile is down to 402 books. It looks like I should make it to well under 400 by the end of the month. And with a bit more will-power, perhaps to under 375 by the end of the year!

*Sigh. OK, seven ebooks.

I haven't bought a book for the last ten days. Turning off the credit card helped, though. Especially since four books that I wanted were released the same day. One I won an ARC of on Twitter , and one I pre-ordered. For Demon Marked I decided to re-read the first six books in the Guardian series first, before buying it. And for Black Gold... Well, I'll wait with that one. Plus, I borrowed some really interesting books from the library .

If you have paid nothing to borrow that book in particular, then it doesn't count, as it's still a freebie.

Renting a book would count.

Nope, it was a freebie. Going to end up buying it later though. It will count then,

Not if you already read it while it was free... As the bought book shouldn't be moved to your TBR pile (at least, not immediately...)

OMG - I think I've just met my twin! I remember packing for vacations - the back seat of the car was filled with stacks of books - and 1 suitcase!
When traveling, I always located a used book store ASAP, and would ship home my "finds"!

Welcome!

[p.s. there's no cure, so enjoy! ]

Does it count as an addiction when 900 out of the 950 e-books on my Kindle were all free?
