Karma is nice; but I really appreciate the kind, supportive, wittly and/or friendly messages that often accompany it.

No wonder that pinwheel is spinning so fast!

At the moment my ratio (counting this post as well), in the "D" category is: 1.05.

I think the number of karma hits is an interesting idea too, so mine is 149 "Karma Bumps" making for an average hit of: 48 points per bump.

If anyone wants to figure their own out, you can see the list of bumps at the lower right of your control panel. There are 15 entries per page of that list, so just go to the last page and count how many are on it. Then you can figure it out by simple math. For example, I have 10 pages and there are 14 entries on my last page so: 15*9+14=149

I'll let you figure out how to do the points per bump on your own.

As a bit of color to my answer: while I admit I enjoy seeing the number jump. I far more value the 1 or 2 point bumps I get from new members that have found some answer of mine helpful to them.

Like Patricia, I also enjoy the little notes that come along with them, some of them are extremely amusing!

One's karma total does very much depend on who does the giving, rather than how many times. For example, if I gave someone karma, they could get a boost of well over 1000 points; if a new poster did the same, it would be 1 or 2 points.

Oh, I love it; more math to do!

OK my 'Points per Karma bump' is 79.5. I will leave it as an excercise to the reader to work backwards and determine my "Karma Bumps"; and yes, please round up!

Yes, I agree. If it weren't for these messages, I'd consider the karma function pretty inane.

By the way – and I've seen this in other polls as well – the option "I don't know what Karma, Posts or Ratio is—Let me see the results" is not really needed as there already is a link to see the results without voting. ("View Poll Results" below the poll options box, on the right side.)
But then again some users might overlook this link ... ah whatever, I'm just rambling ...

I don't know about karma, but I very much appreciate all the doughnuts, hugs and kisses, and cash that you people have sent me. I want to thank you all very much.

Well, okay, you caught me. The guy didn't actually send me doughnuts. Instead I took one of the twenties he sent me and I bought a couple dozen Krispy Kremes. But I'm sure he would have shipped me some had he only known my penchant for them.

There was guy here (seems to have wandered away recently for a while) called Uncle Duke and when he would give me karma he would always say something like "Take another doughnut" or "Get a doughnut".

So yes Zelda, there was someone here giving away donuts.
