You should be able to sync. I haven't heard of this problem before.
Have you asked Kobo why it is no longer working?

As Harley said this shouldn't be the case. Spending $140 on a Kindle to resolve functionality you did and should still have seems an expensive solution. Obviously if you just want a new device that's a different story.

Curious which part is not syncing? eReader <-> Desktop Application <-> iPhone Application? You should definately contact Kobo regarding your issue.

Also Katia if you don't yet have a Kindle (hardware) and are looking at buying one, I would consider holding off a little as a next generation model is rumoured to be out very soon (Sept. seems to be the month being mentioned a lot). Anyway if you are interested you will probably find more info in the Kindle or News sub-forums.
Yes Kindle can sync with side loaded books if you use Calibre. Calibre fills in the ASIN number from the stores which allows synching. As I understand it, the latest update does this automatically for you. I believe the synch works only for page numbers though.

Interesting. That is pretty cool if it works as easy as that. So sideload onto you eReader, and then can you sideload books into the iOS Kindle app and then it will sync your page position? (Sorry only ever used Amazon purchased books, and between my iPhone and Desktop).

Sorry I know this is somewhat of a tangent, but it will matter to the OP if she is planning on being able to sync non-Amazon purchased books between devices (Mac/eReader/iOS).

I have not tried it, I buy from Amazon, but many folks have posted that this feature works very nicely.

I'm not gonna condone or approve of DRM. It's just an observation: Few people posting on this forum approve of DRM.

Strictly in the "abstract", DRM removal is, and will ever, be the goal of any freedom loving person, forever, even with the threat of litigation. It's books we're talking about here(I don't mean all the fiction)! Knowledge! Idealy free for everyone.

Is this forum for consumers(satisfied/unsatisfied), or is there some pandering to industry.

Litigation being the key word here, I'm assuming pandering is not the case.

It's just another form of oppression, if you don't grow some balls and stand up it's just gonna get worse!

Ain't such a home of the BRAVE, land of the FREE anymore is it?

Anyway don't know that it would be a dumb time to buy Kobo anymore than it would be to buy a SONY, Nook, Kindle or any device if you base your purchase on what you are getting today.
Yup, still pining for a search feature on the Kobo. No results.

I live in Europe, and it still seems like a bad time to purchase an ereader, because of the new stuff coming to market in the next few weeks.

Who gives a s#it how long I've been a member of your coushy club. I can read, I don't have to post.

I did pre-order a Sony T1 last week and I'm continually atempting to do the same with a KoboTouch, with no result.

And I'm still pining for actual iOS syncing between KT and my iOS devices. It just doesn't work!

Well it's rather disingenuous to say you've been waiting for months when you only seemed to become aware of this lacking feature here, and not even a month later your making broad statements about how you've been strung along waiting.

.. and this isn't a club, it's an open online forum.

Anyway the SONY T1 looks like a nice enough device (that I myself would consider if it had been on sale when I picked up the Kobo Touch), hopefully it ticks all your boxes.

Nope, at that time the Kobo was expected to be availabe to a discretionary clientele in august. That was the reason for signing up to post.

However it had been available to less, shall I say, ehm.. (fill it in yourself) people since.. what, I forget.. may, june, egal.

I've said it before, and I'll probably need to say it again.

I can read, I don't have to post. In fact I was able to read before I ever posted anything!

OTOH, it might be good thing!

I have a consumer-centric attitude, ergo, it would be great to have molman continually monitor everything just to make sure I'm not stepping on anyones toes.

@bibahbuzemann: So you didn't mean it when you said "Are you implying the Kobo Touch doesn't have a word search function in ebooks? This can't be true, can it?" because you had been reading for months and knew this already.. and had been waiting.. being strung along by the dev's for months. Mate I just tend to find it confusing when people say two different things, but whatever, like I said enjoy the SONY T1 if thats the device the meets your needs. I think it will be a nice eReader.

Ok molman, you got me.

I knew the thing aint got searching from introduction date in the us.

I was reading(only reading, not registered), incidentally, exactly this forum for some time a few months back. Sh't loads of socnet bs and prissy "but I want another font" cr'p.

They did actually promise a seaching function.

But as per when, exactly, Kobo started offering a searching function, well that would be right up your department molman.

As I said, molman, you got me, you're a hero! Fink

S'well.

I believe they (Sameer) mentioned they were working on it (Search Function) about a month ago. No timeframe for release given. If it is a must have feature and you need a reader today you need to look elsewhere (the the Kobo Touch), otherwise wait till when the feature is released.

Anyway I think we answered katiarma's question. Though it is now looking less sure that a new eInk Kindle will be released soon, just the Color one.
