My main gripe with the original nook was that the sideloaded and "official" books were segregated in the software. The fact that the nook touch segregated B&N and non-B&N content on the hardware was surprising, but quickly became a non-issue as I learned that there is very little to no segregation within the software. Nookbooks and sideloaded books show up in the same place within the software on the nook touch.

oh well, different strokes I guess.
Using an SD card does eat battery life. There's enough internal memory that you should not have to use a microSD card. But, given the way B&N botched the internal memory is a really big mistake (IMHO).

you don't have to use a micro sd for sideloaded , there is still alot of memory for sideloaded books. books don't take up alot of space and archiving is also a handy tool . but even if you do how much battery does this actually eat up?

Me personally it's non issue that more has been made out of it than what it actually is.

I would think it would be a pain in the butt to have to flip between my BN books and all of my other books. It makes little to no sense that they do not have them included in the same area. (shrugs)

It is a small thing but if you are someone who buys from multiple shops it is an extra step that you should not have to take.

The nook touch lets you browse all books from one area. The only place they're segregated is on the memory. (B&N books go in one folder while sideloaded books go in another folder, you see them all at once in the library view though)

all the books are intergrated together on both the nook color and the nook touch into one library.

A little confused here, seems there seem to be some conflicting statements.

If you bought epub eBooks from a vendor other than Barnes and Noble, it groups them separately in the user interface of the Nook device?

Or is everyone saying internal storage reserves space for B&N books so you can't store that many books on the internal memory and need an sdcard?

If you bought an ePub from let's say Google or Kobo books the book is intergrated with the rest of your library, BN nook books and epub books alike. They share the same library shelves etc.

on the Nook STR they are only partioned from each other in the internal memory, you don't see that . More space is allocated for the BN books but there is plenty of space for sideloaded books as well, I'm not sure of the amount but it's quite a bit. But if you do need more space, you can store them on an SD card with can hold tons and tons of books.

Thanks boswd.

I'm not crazy about the idea that the internal storage is partitioned like that. Does anyone know if it's possible to change it if you root the device?

It looks like there are 2gb of internal memory, I wonder what the split is -- not that epubs take a lot of storage anyway. As long as it's reasonable (at least 500mb) I don't see it being that much of an issue.

Eh, not really.

I buy very few books - get most of them from Google Books or other free sources, and the public library.

Having 3/4ths of my internal memory basically unusable to me is a big turn-off for the Nook Touch.

Why should I have to pay for extra storage when the storage is *right there*, but quarantined?

Why do this except to try to control what I read? Blech. It's not as bad as Apple or Amazon, but it's approaching it.

So, yes, it does matter - maybe not to you, but don't be one of THOSE people, please.

I'm sorry $4 for a 2g card is not a big deal no matter who you are. Fact is if you can afford an ebook reader, $4 is not in any way shape or form a deal breaker. If a 2G card cost $80 then you have a point but they don't.
Also there is alot of memory for sideloaded, ebooks are small files and also archiving is a great management tool as well.

So yes it is people complaining for the sake of complaining.

Not really. Why should you have to buy a memory card because BN portions the memory in a weird way?

You don't have to buy one.

there is alot of memory for sideloaded, but if happen to need more space for your library to grow the option is there for you and as I said before archiving your books is also a great resource to use as well and you don't need an sd card to utilize it, it's part of the nook's software.
