I taught International relations to College students for 8 years. I have some very strong feelings on the matter of Communism and Communist countries.

I think that someone who has been raised in Vietnam is likely to have a different take on the matter for a wide variety of reasons. I like Ahn and would love to discuss Communism in the politics thread, I just don't think this is the place for that discussion. I don't think it hurts those of us from more open systems to remember that people can get in trouble in other parts of the world for reading the very simple statements that we have made here.

I guess, I am saying, that there is the possibility that this could be a more sensitive topic of conversation then just discussing politics outside of the politics thread and it would not hurt is to be sensitive to that fact.

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
with a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
and in my heart you will remain
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young, Forever Young
Forever Young
Forever Young

Those of us of my generation grew up being taught that if another world war would be fought, it would be because of the Communists. In the US, there was massive 'Black Listing' of people 'suspected to be Communists, keeping them from getting jobs or participating in public venues. Communists, especially Russian and Chinese, were synonymous with 'Enemy.' We were quite literally 'brain washed' to believe anyone who was a "Commie" was trying to destroy our concept of freedom. To reinforce our loyalty, we were required to repeat a loyalty pledge EVERY SINGLE DAY though out our primary and secondary educational history. As children, we never realized what was going on, but we were required to do it, none the less.

Referring to a higher power to speak about it isn't the same as naming it. It's to give a common reference point rather than a definition.

Not 'eventually.' "Already!" In his book, "The Tao of Physics," the well respected physicist Fritjof Capra says that the more deeply he investigates Quantum Physics, the more closely it approaches religion!

Because as ProfCrash said, I'm living in a country run by Communist Party and have a very different view. Life is alright. Still a mess some decades after war, but acceptable IMO.

The USSR, as well as my country in 1970s-1980s, has made many mistakes. People from that time say it was like living in hell. From the fall of the USSR, our government realized their fatal mistakes and changed the policies. Living condition has been greatly improved. There is no terrorism in Vietnam. The people in our country believe strongly in government. Patriotism. Nationalism.

I should have passed this conversation as I passed the one on religion, but my views, which are derived from very personal experiences (I have not always lived in Spain, free and brainless) are too strong and this topic much too sensible for me to shut my mouth when asked "what is wrong with communism". This has nothing to do with any participant here and is as I said a personal and almost epidermic reaction.
But I will refrain from now on, the subject is closed for me.

Preparing for another day with the normal school determined schedule. Prince has a backpack full of books, he will never be able to carry that thing. Why can't they have lockers like anywhere else ?

I will go shopping today for corn (will try Anh's recipe) and also for pumpkin, which is slowly showing up everywhere, and will do a pumpkin cream soup served ice cold, like a gazpacho.

Right on both counts.

For dinner I had a smoothie with white cabbage. I found out that adding 4 strawberries made it good. Little girls did not want the creamed leeks so I gave her some cherry tomatoes. I tasted one with the smoothie and I found out that it enhanced the sweetness of the tomato. So this is my invention for a cold soup.
A white cabbage + 4 strawberries soup with half cherry tomatoes pocking in it. Halved because if you byte a whole cherry tomato it might ...

Obviously you value friendship very much. So do I.

Quite so! That forum is little more than a street fight! No matter what anyone says, people will take the opposite view, and tear others apart for their ideas.

What was going on here was no fight nor argument at all. Not even a debate. It was friends discussing 'about' religion, not discussing religion itself. I find that VERY different.

Anyway, apparently too serious for some. Perhaps we need another sub-forum for serious discussion and keep this one for just 'what's in your cup.'

Some of us are also in P&R. But the discussions there are rather 'robust'.

Which is why I restrict my comments to noting the rather excellent cold Coke Zero (#1) 'in my cup' this morning.
