What the hell is the (main) point of having the wifi then ? They have recently said they are starting up, at last, the Sony bookstore in UK - but what is the point of buying a T1 , with wifi as they say on the website here, if you cant buy books with it ? "Oh , pay us for it and we'll promise you'll be able too later, when we open our store....."
Surely it doesn't mean that in Oz- or anywhere actually - you can't buy from an online shop at all,(Borders, Smiths etc..) 'cos you don't have a Sony store ? Or can you only use the wifi from Sony bookstores, wherever you are in the world, but no other independent ones ? That's plain ridiculous !! Or will someone point out the flaw in someone's statements ! [prob'ly mine..] I'm much less impressed now, anyway, and very glad I've got my x50's. ![]() Last edited by carpetmojo; 09-03-2011 at 05:51 PM. Reason: spellin' |

"You will be able to download any compatible content from any web page per WiFi using the built in web browser." He went on to list a couple of sales portals incl. Thalia.de, Bol.de, Kobobooks.com and GoogleBooks which are all supposed to work per WiFi. I asked him: "Even MS-Word Documents?" and he confirmed it. |

I noticed it is supposed to directly download library books (select titles anyway).
I won't be rushing out to replace my 650 with it anytime soon, but it does seem an improvement. Nice to see they offer three colors in the States, rather than previously offering more everywhere else. |

Thanks for the follow-up. I will find out for sure later on. I would keep the 650 too if I were you. Probably the best build quality we will see for a long time.

Dumb question but why do you need to have a store in your country to buy with WiFi? Doesn't the WiFi connect you to the internet which is worldwide? I'm obviously missing something here, could someone explain?

Almost no new features? WiFi, browser, can download eBooks, more font size choices, fonts to choose from, multi-touch, and other stuff. So really, it's got a lot more going for it. |

Have you tried the 6 (someone says 7) different fonts that can be used with the T1? What kind of fonts are they (serif or notserif)? And is possible to change the line spacing? Last but not least, the increase of the size of the fonts (they say 9 instead of the actual 6) are more gradual? J also realized, loking at some short movies on You Tube, that the pinch (better: double tap) allowed by the new model only enlarge the page (like a magnifing glass), without any reflow of the text. Is this correct? Last edited by prsita; 09-04-2011 at 04:06 AM. |

a) WiFi was alredy aviable on the PRS 950, and it was (with the wrong price) a big mistake not to implement it on PR650; with the WiFi on the T1 they have corrected an error of the PRS 650; the second error of this last model was, as alredy said, the price, not even comparable with the Kindle and more evident after the Nook touch and the Kombo touch; b) font size choices are alredy possible installing PRS+ on the PRS 950, 650, 350 and other models (that allow to use not only 6 fonts and shows the time during reading); c) multi-touch is only the possibility to enlarge the text (without reflowing it), alredy possible. They haven't even implemented a side touch that allow to turn pages (as the Nook Touch). So far, the T1 is not very innovative (except for the price) and, on same aspects, is, on the contrary, involutive (plastic body, pen not included in the device).
