So you want a reader that exceeds Sony's offering in most respects at two thirds of the price? Good luck with that.

Aside from the searching in a text, the pinch zoom and the wifi on-device downloads (which is a mess among all the readers and sony will only start to have with its new prsT1 model), the kobo kinda already does meet and sometimes exceed sony at 2/3 the price (or less even, depending on the model) , with the latest firmware. We'll see how good and android-ey the new sony will be....but if it wasn't for the hacking of prs+, sony would be the worse option next to kobo.
I can always ask for more language and dictionary options on the kobo (and I do) beyond the selection of western european languages they now have.
but man oh man, I almost don't know what to ask for anymore.
How 'bout:
tabbed web browser and RADIUS encryption login to use on university campuses? with downloads of pages & files, not for reading but just for storage. I'll load them on my computer when I get back to it.

just wanted to say thanks for the new update! - i no longer have page turn problems! and that used to frustrate me immensely - esp as i'm a quick reader and sometimes the page turn would get bogged down and then get non responsive, then finally do a double turn.

so thanks!

It would indeed be happy day when nobody had page turning issues. We are talking about an electronic ebook reading device here right? Designed to replace or at least augment or even imitate printed books in such a fashion that a comparable reading experience might ensue, right?

Well this is good news! Well done, Kobo devs!

They do now according to:

http://www.sony.de/product/rd-reader-ebook/prs-t1

Assuming they really did just mean RTF, the question would be, can the Kobo do it?

Thank's for bringing it up!

I just love the absolutely direct correlation between FEATURES and PRICE!

2/3! That' great!

If either of the companies(Sony, Kobo) come clean and actually make their devices available to me in October, wich would be the first time I got my hands on any of them...

Just tried to pre-order a Kobotouch, didn't work.

If at some time inthe next month it happens to work, I'll just do it, and compare to two things and return the one i like less, basta.

Yes Sir! I love this guy "readingglasses". He put a discrete value to the Kobotouch without even knowing it.

2/3

Take in all the features I'd like to see...

- access to googleBooks
- two finger pinch and zoom

- full flexibility sorting of the users library

- and, of course, searching within the book
So this guy "readingglasses" says 2/3, or even more of these features, are already implemented on the the Kobotouch.

OK! That's great, but since I ain't got (and cant get) a Kobo I can't confirm.

As far as I know not any of them work.

Assuming any of them work, it still might be a pretty far stretch to think 2/3 of them work.

Thus, just to make a simple point: 2/3 Features = 2/3 Price

Current prospective Kobo price: €149; Features adjusted = €100

Smite me Kobo apostels, but I'm not really believing!

I ain't getting one till, well whenever if ever. I'm not so sure anymore.

I will keep on trying to pre-order one.

Just be sure to update to the latest firmware. Don't judge a virtual book by its last incarnation ...but by its latest.

Some more requests for the page view...

*) Option: Hide the book title.

*) Option: Hide the page number. For PDF files, the page number bar can block page contents !! (and in firmware 1.9.10, sometimes the page numbers are extremely close to the last line on the page)

*) Option: Semi-justification. That is, with at most 1.5 (adjustable) spaces between words. This is a good compromise between full-justification and left-justification.

I found a failure-to-delete bug that still remains in the latest firmware 1.9.10. Steps that reproduce it everytime for me:
Touch "Library", then touch "Books".
Pick a book on the microSD card from the list and touch the menu icon.
Touch "Delete".
Touch "Continue" to delete the book.
Book listing disappears.
Power off the Kobo. Now power it back on.
As it starts up, the "processing content" screen appears.
Touch "Library" then "Books" again. The book I just deleted is back! D'oh!

Can you even delete a book from the sdcard via the kobo? if not then that's probably why the book is reappearing when you power it off/on.

Instant switching between ebooks.

This regards a "new" firmware update request. Quoting myself with reference to ancient ereading devices with some great features, specifically REB 1200 and EBW 1150:

Quote:

That's not bad software at all.

Instant ebook switching doesn't even work on the most modern ereader devices.

Comparative reading of several different ebooks with instantaneous switching was(is) just so cool. You can't get it anymore. Shame.

If I were to a ask Kobo, Sony, Amazon dev etc. to implement such flexibility in one of their NEW devices(running GHz processors) they'd just shake their empty little heads and say: BUT THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!
But actually it ain't impossible. One touch to the book list, one touch the next book you want to read. Or just one touch to the switch that toggles the most recent two ebooks you were reading. Switching is exactly instantaneous.

AFAIK the software was made by a firm called ETI, which has recently been acquired by Google. So the code exists, why not just try to licence THAT? Or do your OWN programming(nah).

Yah, I know, that's just not a contemporary way of doing things.

It would neatly solve the:

- searching
- bookmarking
- highlighting
- annotation

deficits of the current software.

The menu option is there so I don't see why it shouldn't work. The workaround is easy (plug in the usb and delete it that way or use Calibre) so its no big deal until its fixed.

When I open this in ADE I see they have nested TOC -- Top Level has the Books & Next level has the chapters (Top level has a + to touch). So I suspect TOC in epub is similarly organized (Very fast in ADE to bring up).
