I remember when sodas were still sold in the old tin can's and had a pull tab top rather than the aluminum can's that we have today. I also remember sitting in the back seat of my dad's car and wishing that my feet would reach the floor. lol. And I remember when A &W root beer served up it's beverage in glass mugs in both adult and child sizes. My dad would sometimes order a jug of root beer and a chocolate fudge sundae with two spoons.

I remember when the standard Coke size was a 6 oz. bottle, large was 10 oz. and there was a 16 oz. King-size bottle. The 6 oz. bottle was a nickel.

Penny candy cost only a penny. Candy like Squirrel Nut Zippers, Mary Janes (I'm sure they would pull my fillings out today), Tootsie Rolls, Pixy Stix, Candy Cigarettes, Wax Lips, Atomic Fireballs, Sugar Babies, Sugar Daddies, Slo Pokes, Turkish Taffy, Bit O' Honey, peanut butter kisses, wax bottles, Chick-o-sticks, Black Cows, Charleston Chews, Dum Dum Pops, Bazooka Joe Bubblegum (with a comic strip inside), Oh, Henry! candy bars, and Cracker Jacks (when they had real prizes inside that you could choke on), |

I remember when you could get a giant sized ice cream cone for a bit over a dollar. I don't think they even make that size cone anymore. At least I haven't seen any that size in a long time.

The first game my dad ever took me to was in 1959 - the Senators hosting the Kansas City Athletics. The fact that those teams haven't existed for forty years says something about pro sports. At least when Army plays Navy you know that West Point and Annapolis will still be around when you move on to meet your Maker. |

Plus my joy of discovering You can't Do that on Television, and Kids Incorporated. Oh and the excitement building when you heard the HBO theme song right before the movie came on. I remember playing Pong by myself. I remember owning a hard to use Apple IIc, when most of the software was for the Apple IIe. I remember being dropped off at the library for hours, and still bringing home an armload of books all of which I read before they were were due. I would also borrow as many "Choose Your Own Adventure" books as I could find. |

I remember seeing steam trains running past and travelling around the country in them (and getting very dirty!) Our first office computer - the size of a small car! And getting the first desk-top computer, no-one had even seen one before. Using VisiCalc on a PC (being the maths expert gave me the edge!) But I also remember having to fight for a decent job (being female) and overcoming a lot of obstacles I think I prefer now to then - how did I live without computers, ebook readers and smart phones? I just didn't know what I was missing. |

Being originally from Portsmouth, Virginia, I remember how proud we were to get our own baseball team in the region: The Portsmouth Tides.

I remember how a couple of years later, after the surrounding cities (including Norfolk, VA) felt left out and complained that the team should have a name that reflected the entire region, the team's name was officially changed to The Tidewater Tides. I remember also how when the team eventually relocated next door in Norfolk, Virginia, the name was changed to The Norfolk Tides, which it still remains. So whatever happened to the need for a name that reflected the entire region? To hell with the Tides. Last edited by WT Sharpe; 09-03-2011 at 10:37 AM. |

I remember when I would play about with Basic on my TRS-80 computer. It gave me a hand up with learning apple Basic since there were only a few changes in commands. CLS (clear screen) for the TRS-80 was the same as HOME on the Apple for example. I don't know if Basic is even still used in anything now days.
