I still think SONY generally makes nice hardware (software has been another story), though I think there is still a cultural Japanese design style in their DNA - tending to be more complex than they often need to be, verses and American company like Apple who tend to take a KISS approach (to the point of irritation for some users). I seem to recall reading somewhere that a much higher percentage of Japanese individuals would read product manuals (finding out all the features/functions) whereas Americans as a rule didn't (hence if it wasn't in their face/easily discoverable it was lost on them). Generalisations of course but interesting all the same.

This is a ray of hope! I find BBeB easier to create than ePUB in a lot of situations. It looks and performs better than ePUB in general too... though entirely a matter of personal preference. I definitely want them to maintain support of this format.

This isnt like a kindle, where it can get extra sales off its bookstore since pretty much all the major book sellers now(other than amazon) offer epub's.
The USA price is $149, so it is just slightly more than the Nook or Kobo.

Sony Germany lists it for € 149. That's the same price as Kobo's reader and just € 10 more than the Kindle.
Sony Germany also wants to start its own bookstore, something they didn't do up to now. This looks like a complete change of strategy; pushing the price down and competing with the bookstores. I'm not sure if it is a good idea as they will lose the bookstores as sales outlet for their readers. Sony obviously does have the advantage that they have a strong presence in the electronics outlets.
I can't say that I am happy about the glossy plastic, though. Even though it may work well enough (fingerprint magnet?) it is definitively a loss aof quality feel.

LRF does perform better than ePub on my PRS-650.
All my LRFs are faster and less power hungry than any ePub.

And the font size gap is not half as big as it is with epub.

The T1 now has 8 different font size choices. So the gap has been closed.

Great video, shows multi-touch on screen.

It goes in to the same fast refresh mode as the 650 when holding page button. But it looks to me like it lags some. Maybe even too much to be accurate. If there are discrete font-size stops (JSWolf mentions 8 font sizes), I didn't notice in the video.

Very bright room, you can see the gloss of the bezels, but I don't find it distracting... my attention stayed focused on the screen.
