As it's meant to have a 1GHz processor I can't see the pagination being slow, and they already have that press and hold the forward/back button on the x50 for rapid flick so we know they can do multiple low quality refreshes per second.

WOW, talk about speculation. Sony annouces their new 6" reader and everyone jumps to the conclusion that they ahve dropped the 5" and 7" models. Ever thought that they will come along later??? Or maybe they will keep the 350 and 950? The 950 already has wifi. And the 350 is a niche product. |

I like really to be able to just pinch zoom (even if slow), rather than having to go though menus to change font size.

That is most likely due to how your security settings are. It is perfectly possible to have it accessible outside of your home network. Set your router to do port forwarding to your computer running the calibre server. Now, all traffic for the port in question going to your WAN IP goes to your computer, same as if on your LAN.

In terms of the 350, I now prefer it over the 650, though it's not quite as fast. It has been their most available Reader in the US market, but that could go either way: available because stock was high and nobody bought them; available because Sony kept stock high since they sold so well. No idea which it is! -Pie

A good question is how many stores will the new T1 be available in? Will it be in the major superstores so that anyone can try it and buy it?

On Sony Style, the ereaders link only takes you to the T1 page. The Sony Reader Store still lists the various models in the side nav bar, but if you click them you're greeted with "No longer available for purchase at Sony Store.". If they were out of stock, they'd simply state "out of stock" (which Sony does list "out of stock" for non discontinued items).

The biggest problem is that it's hard to find almost any e-Reader in a B&M store to look at. Even Target no longer sells The Kindle in store, and while the Nook is accessible at B&N they don't sell anything else for comparison. Best Buy ditched the Sony, but even when they had it, there was nothing else to compare it to. Here's to hoping the new model -- and other brands! -- gets on to store shelves so we can do some serious comparing. -Pie
