The Kindle has 4GB memory, with about 3.25GB available to the user. I agree that one doesn't NEED that much: I currently have 600 books on my Kindle (many of which are large omnibus editions) and still have 2.3GB free), but it's better to have too much memory than too little.

For audiobooks; but only if the device doesn't have a card slot (like the Kindle 3). Since this Sony has a card slot, internal storage doesn't matter.

There's a very rapid way to add a bunch of books to a Kindle collection. Right click on the collection name, and select "Add/Remove books". You'll get shown a list of all your books and you just check/uncheck them to add/remove them.

As I get older, I find myself wishing for a memory card slot - I think my main memory's full up.......

My actual library is about 40GB. But seeing as how it wouldn't really be practical to store it on all my reader, I confine myself to those books which I feel I may want to read in the foreseeable future. It takes only moments to transfer books from my portable hard disk, after all.

I am not entirely sure that will be easily done. They'll probably not give the ability out of the box, but give it time and they'll have it rooted.

Sony did update ADE on the x50 line and they did remove the glare from the touch layer by removing the touch layer and using IR. So yes, Sony has fixed things.

Good heavens no . But for years I just collected every single thing that PG, and various other sources such as the Internet archive, put out. These days I'm a lot more selective. You have to remember that I've been in the eBook game for about 20 years or so, so I've had a long time to "accumulate" things. The overwhelming majority of it is stuff I'll never, ever, look at, but I can't bring myself to hit the "delete" key. Disk space is cheap.

EDIT: I exaggerated slightly. I've just checked and it's actually 31.6GB.

Ah, so sounds like you had what the emulation scene calls "pokerom", where you "gotta catch 'em all".

I guess that's one thing I've not had in regards to ebooks. I only get what I want to read, and what I want to read soon. When I get too much of a backlog, I start feeling guilty and want to rush what I am reading, which ultimately makes me less likely to read since I burn out a little.

With the x50 Readers, you can manage collections on the Reader itself. You can create a new collection or manage and already existing collection. Then once in the collection, you can manage what books you want in that collection. No, you cannot see what collections each book is in without going to each collection and looking. But other then that, it's not hard.

That's the way it works on the Kindle too, Jon - you can EITHER choose the book, and then decide what collections it should be in, OR you can choose the collection, and then decide what books should be in it. Many people only know about the first method, which is perhaps why it's often claimed that collection management on the Kindle is hard. But it really isn't if you do it the "right" way .

Indeed! Sony sucks so badly at software, they suck at OTHER PEOPLE'S software too!!

I just don't think they read this forum. I need to drive up to Sony and demand a job as head of Reader development... Honestly, I would quit my current job for that in a nanosecond; and that's even considered that I'd give up my work-break surf sessions, since Rancho Bernardo is too far from the ocean!
