Not me. I refuse to pay more than the DTB versions. Whatever those in the know say about the profitability of ebooks, and how it will destroy the industry blah blah blah, I cannot see how a process of getting the written word to readers that excludes the cost of printing, distribution and in many cases, mark-up for the booksellers, can be less profitable for the publisher and author.

@HomeInMyShoes: I'd visit the library to find something else to read in the meantime. So many books out there. You surely can ignore one particular book for a while.

No really shortage of other options. Availability of some of the books I'm looking for is low and having a Kindle in Canada is definitely a bummer from an e-borrowing standpoint. I can borrow books for reading through a custom application on my home computer, but frankly, that blows and I don't read on my home computer.

I can't find the guitar I want!!! I'm looking for a used "Les Paul" model, preferably made by Epiphone (the used Gibson's are selling for mega-thousands. I want to spend a few hundred.) I can find a LOT of 'Les Paul' models but made by a host of other manufacturers, but not with the electrics I want. Bummer.

I may just have to pick up another brand, and do some customizing to the pickups, bridge, and pots myself...

You can do that and keep looking for the one you want. After all too many guitars is never enough!

it simply astonishes me what skills and talents people reveal here some of them being plainly cool, some great and some jawdroppingly(can I say it this way?) sensational (cf also the thead about the 10 most adventureous things ppl did)

and all this happens with an en passant modesty being remarkable on its own right.

just wanted to point that^ out

Damn!! THis is disastrous! I just learned that the Feds have raided the Gibson factory! They are confiscating wood. Legally imported wood from India. Wood NOT on any endangered list...

It seems that India has a law... Its woods must be worked on in India by Indian nationals... Although raw wood can be legally exported, Indian laws say they can't then be machined... So the US Federal government is confiscating all of the Indian rosewood and Indian mahogany at the Gibson plant... and ONLY at the Gibson plant...

Very strange. Most high end guitar makers use Indian rosewood and Indian mahogany. Why are the Feds targeting Gibson? Why not Martin, Guild, Fender, Yamaha? All these makers stopped importing Brazilian Rose Wood, African ebony and mahogany, and only using what is remaining in their stocks (woods are usually bought and stored for many, many years to dry) importing no more endangered woods. This raid on Gibson has nothing to do with US importation or conservation laws, only Indian law...

Maybe the US goverment is now reliant on financial aid from India and this is part of the agreement.

That would be fun! Have you seen the prices for a '59 Sunburst Gibson 'Les Paul'? Asking prices 'average' around $350,000.00 A bit out of my range too.

Thanks, but I'd be very reluctant to buy a guitar that I didn't have the opportunity to play on first. No way of knowing if the neck is twisted, (bowed is OK, twisted is not,) the condition of the frets and nut, condition of the pegs, etc., to say nothing of the electrics...

There are enough shops here that I should be able to find exactly what I'm looking for.
