To me this seems like a really foolish business move.
If they're going to be plastic with a naff-looking stylus (I realise the old stylish ones were a bit prone to breaking), then how can they justify being 50% more expensive than the Kindle is soon likely to be? The only benefits are the multiple dictionaries, possibly better PDF handling (see whether Amazon improves this soon) and the Epub format. It's not as if the 650 is uncomfortably heavy - in fact, the 'heft' is rather nice. Bad place in the market for Sony to position themselves, I think. You're either a premium product or you're not. There aren't enough quality features here to set them apart from other products in the consumer's mind, but the price difference is enough that many won't even consider it over the other options. |

We'll have to wait and see what happens. All we have are some speculations based on a photo. I'm hoping the T1 will be better then the 650 other then the addition of wifi. But I can't say until I get to see one in person.

The photos I saw on bol.com before they were taken down did not show any hyphens. So I'm thinking it's the same version of ADE as the x50 line uses. The latest ADE dies support hyphenation. But if Sony isn't using it, then there's no hyphenation support. |

Bottom line for ME, it brings nothing that I want or need, and some things I don't want or like. Don't need or want wifi. Don't like the plastic. No additional internal memory. Curved bottom so I can prop it easily on the table while reading and eating. Pinch zoom, no need for ME.
So I will keep my 650 and maybe try to find a used or refurb 650 for my wife to replace my old 600 she is using. And we have a 350 we picked up at Borders for a backup. And people keep worrying about Sony sales, if worldwide they are selling them faster than they can make them/get screens, why worry? If I have a product that I can sell all I can make, I am HAPPY. And I will do so at the highest price I can continue to sell all I can make. |

I do not consider this to be a new generation. It appears to be the old generation in a plastic casing. They have not even upped the internal memory to compete with other, much cheaper brands.
New models should at least feature 3 to 4 Gb internal memory and a considerably faster processor and higher res screens with improved contrast. And I would welcome good natural sounding text to speech like pocketbook has. And of course there should be a 7"model. What is on offer is not at all appealing to someone like me who already owns a 950. I'll be skipping this uninteresting plastic refit. |

The way I look at this is that it appears they're trying to drop the price to compete. By switching to plastic, and warming over previous things, they can keep costs down. Still, we'll see how things end up.

More speculations based on photos
![]() A comment made in the German website says that the Zoom/search button is replaced with a Back button, presumably because the pinch-zoom gesture obviates the need for the Zoom buttom. The Back button is interesting. It implies a new UI that needs a Back button? Also, Android fodder: there's rumor that the new Reader will be Android-based. A Home button and a Back button are needed for Android. |

I find myself more & more tempted to splash the plastic and grab another 350 while I may be able to, although it doesn't have card slots....p'raps a 650 too, to be on the safe side ............
Should see me out, then... Cos I too don't like that curved bottom, the plastic, the gloss......... Course, be funny if it turns out totally different [unlikely], or , well, actually OK [possible, I suppose]. And will the Potters like it ? ![]() |

This is the first Sony eReader I like. I can't see paying the price asking but if it's in the same price range as Nook Touch, Kobo Touch and Kindle 3. I'd buy it.

I'm from Holland and from experience, I can tell that 160euros will be $160 in the US
so the device will cost around $160 |

The Nook Touch and Kobo Touch have 2GB of internal memory as well. The Nook Touch takes it one step further and only allows 250MB of side-loaded non-B&N content. The Kindle has more internal storage because it doesn't have a memory expansion capability like the other brands. I wonder if the PRS-T1 will keep both the SD and MS formats. The website spec says "microSD cards".
