Marketplace update problem

Anyone else having trouble with the new version of marketplace? The old one was working fine but the new one closes when I trying to download a new app. When I uninstalled the update all was normal until the rascal updated itself again. Any ideas?

Is there any way to turn off automatic updates in the app? I can't check, not being in the US.

I'm curious if you got market on your device using any other way then from rooted market phone?

Im asking because I used my rooted Epic 4g to backup market with Titanium Backup to get it on my PE. I got the same update and I haven't had a problem yet, so Im curious if I should be ready.

I've looked for anything on Market App and even on the google account page, I saw nothing to stop updates. I doubt google would really allow that, for 'security' reasons. Hopefully others find something I overlooked.

We installed market using a rooted nook. I've gone through several cycles of using settings to uninstall the market update and then it autoupdates itself. Each time apps download and install just fine with the old version but under the new version it closes when I try to download. Somewhere (xda?) it was suggested that Titanium Pro could be used to freeze the version level where desired. I'll have to investigate further. I just got a Nexus S 4G and setting that up has taken up my Sunday . Maybe tomorrow.

hmm I wonder if the fact you got your market from a Nook that it somehow makes a difference. I got my market from my rooted 4g epic and have had no problem yet.

I have a very similar issue before. When I updated my apps from the new version of market, there was always an error appeared. I tried to freeze the market updater, but it isn't useful. However, I can currently update my apps now using the new version of market without any error. I guess there was some error from the market server side before. BTW, I used a rooted phone to install the market on my PE.

OK, I noticed the market app descriptions had some odd background artifacts. I had installed chainfire at one time but since uninstalled after some applications were unstable. Then I remembered I changed the lcd density to 120 in build.prop. I went in with the latest ES file explorer and changed the lcd density to 100. Market was still wonky so I tried to open ES file explorer to edit lcd density and it kept force closing. After several reboots yielded no joy, I unistalled the ES file explorer update reverting to the PE original version. This version allowed me to go back to lcd density of 120. I updated ES file explorer to latest version and it works great again - no force closes. So if some nice person could provide me the original lcd density number I'll try that and see if that fixes the newest market. TIA

Success! It was lcd density causing my updated market to crash. I increased lcd density by increments of 5 until 160 where the new market was stable and wouldn't crash when trying to download an app. As far as ESfile explorer is concerned the latest version would crash below lcd density of 120.So tweaking the lcd density at least on my PE seems to have caused stability problems between different versions of a app.

Question

Why would the LCD density cause the app to fail?

@Gunnerp245: Don't know at this point. In the forums there are several threads of similar problems affecting dialers and games but I saw none dealing with the latest market. It was a reliable cause and effect that I could reverse. By the way I have now used Titanium pro to freeze market updater and reverted back to lcd density of 120. The 160 setting was driving me crazy. Old market is stable and no auto market updating .

Just a quick update. I found a thread in another forum where nook color users who had changed lcd density from stock were having problems with the new market. So the PE isn't the only one with this problem.

Something then is checking the screen to ensure the device is allowed to access the market.

Which version are you using which works? I tried the LCD density thing but my market (version 3.0.27) still refuses to allow downloads

jamina1,the Market version I'm using is 2.3.6. The one just before they added movies and books. The facelift may have had a bearing on my particular problems. If the new one is picky about the lcd density it may be picky about other changes made to stock config.
