Amazon Tablet May Cost Hundreds Less Than iPad

I can only hope this is true... http://gizmodo.com/5834844/amazons-t...-than-the-ipad If it is, it's likely that they're selling it at a loss, or they're leaving out some key features. I'm interested to see which way they go. I think the tablet's set to be a big boon for Amazon, as they will be able to provide all the music & movies & apps. If it hits $250 or so, I'm in without too many questions. If it's $350 or over, I'm waiting for a future price drop. |

Well, that's what they pretty much have to do. You can't compete with Apple by basically offering the same (or slightly better) product and charge more for it (but that's basically what most tablets have been doing). The question is, how cheap will they make the hardware (in terms of performance and screen)? |

The screen will probably be as good as the NOOKcolor because it will be compared to it. That alone would capture my interest. If it's lighter than the NOOKcolor, I'm in. At a low price point I'm not seeking cameras or an HDMI port. It's gotta be a great eReader first and foremost for me.

I really doubt they'll sell their tablets at a loss. I do think they'll be much more like Apple than B&N in one regard: I'll be surprised if their tablet has access to the Google Market and I don't think they'll tacitly encourage rooting. If they have a sharp 7 inch table for 200 or so (with offers) I might be in at Xmas. |

If they can get a decent screen that's bigger than 7" and run ComiXology I'm interested. If they do 7" and run ComiXology it might replace my NC when it dies. No ComiXology, and I'm going elsewhere.

Okay, did I miss something here? I've never seen Amazon confirm they're going to even HAVE a tablet! If someone has confirmation, please post a link. *Google is my friend - from what I found, it seems that everyone EXCEPT Amazon has confirmed this. |

If they produce a NookColor competitor, perhaps. They cannot put together an iPad competitor at hundreds less. No one can. Lee |

So far as the price goes: show me the hardware. Until then, the price means nothing to me. | |

Wild Guess Time: The big allure of Amazon's tablet could be free stuff included with it: Included Amazon Prime membership, steep discounts on content (or not so steep), maybe even free wireless. |

Bezos all but confirmed that Amazon was coming out with a tablet when he said "Stay tuned" when asked about it.

I'm not trying to start an argument. But until Amazon says something like "Yes, we're coming out with a tablet" I wouldn't be counting on a thing. But that's just me.

No fight intended, but when Bezos says "stay tuned" when asked directly if they're coming out with a tablet then that's a pretty good indication that they have something in mind. Amazon obviously isn't going to announce anything until their good and ready. But, I think portents are favorable in this case.
