He should have made Stephen Elop - the Current Nokia CEO - his successor ;-)

There is a "fake Stephen Elop" twitter account and this is what he had to say:
@fakeselop: Best wishes to Steve Jobs, the man we have been failing miserably at trying to copy since 2007. |

Personally, I think Steve Jobs is a daring innovator who often went with his gut rather than what focus groups or other people were telling him. I just can't see Apple being the same without him.

I don't own any Apple products. I find them too expensive.
However, I have a lot of respect for Steve Jobs. I remember back when he was fired from Apple. At the time I read an article that basically said the reason he was fired was that Jobs wanted to focus on the Mac while Sculley wanted to focus on the Lisa. Well, hindsight may be 20-20, but I think we can all agree which of the two of them was right. |

I've often been an Apple basher due to their pricing and what I feel is an irrational following. However, they innovate like no other; they make top-notch products, and the world of computing and consumer electronics would -over all- be worse off without their influence. imo.

I love my IPod. It is easy to use and carries a ton of music and I like that it is available in purple.
I am shallow, sue me. I used the original Apple computers when I was in high school and at the start of college. I hope that Mr. Jobs is stepping down in good health and has decided that he wants to enjoy his family and friends and no longer wants to deal with the day to day stress of running a massive company. His company has created a series of great products and has one of the best PR departments I know of. They found a way to create a product that is good and expensive but that millions of people want to use. That is impressive. I think we can look at any of the great business tycoons and point to actions taken that will anger us while also finding things that they did that were highly innovative. History will point to some of Jobs less then stellar moments but he will be remembered for his innovation, talent, and drive. And I seriously doubt there is going to be much written about his role in setting e-book prices. |

But if there is one thing that is remarkable about Jobs and Apple, it is the unusually small amount of ill will accumulated for a company with that net worth. Just think about the historical counterparts: IBM at the top of their might, later Microsoft? I always liked their stuff, but with one exception (my son got iTouch 3G for his birthday) could never justify the price tag. Never felt the urge to bash Apple as a company, either. |

Best of luck to Steve Jobs, arguably the greatest CEO of his generation. He will not be soon forgotten

Unfortunately this does not mean good news regarding his health, I am afraid, but I do wish him all the best.
I wish more CEOs would have his kind of vision and even more important, also dare to follow their vision. This graduation speech of his I came across a while ago, and I think it is very much worth listening to. |
