Harry, I think we are talking in circles. I'm not suggesting that of all the choices available to you that the Apple wasn't the best choice for your needs.

When you say that a device meets your needs, you are not saying that it is the best it can be; that implies that there is no room for improvement -- everything includable is included and what is included is perfect. What you are saying when you say it meets your needs is that it is the best in its class, regardless of how low or high the class threshold may be.

I'm certainly not saying that it's the best it can be, no. I can think of lots of ways in which the iPhone could be improved (adding a microSD card slot would be a big improvement, for example). It is, however, for me, the best device that's currently available.

It will offer an app store, one that's aggressively curated to sell only apps that work very well on the tablet's not-too-fast processor. (You could play puzzle games on it, but not 3-D action shooters.) And here's the best part: It would sell for $200.
So, has anyone told this guy that Amazon already has an App Store, and that store includes more than puzzle games?

Quote:
Part of the appeal of Amazon's Kindle e-reader is the device's seamless connection to Amazon's online bookstore. When you open your Kindle, it's already connected to your Amazon account—you can start browsing and buying e-books immediately. The tablet would offer the same connection to Amazon's movie, music, and Android app stores, too.
But it will only be able to play the puzzle games and simple apps, and careful with the video because it may stutter a bit, k guyz? Not to mention the increasingly demanding multimedia and funtility (made that word up myself!) apps that neutered hardware would compromise.

Seriously I think journalists need to make a flow chart of their logic before writing an article.

I actually find myself using the Kindle app on my Galaxy Tab to surf the store and read samples, and then I switch to my K3 to actually read the books I decide to buy. Tablets are great but the LCD screens just don't work for my eyes for long-term reading.

Until they can produce a tablet with a screen that is as easy on the eyes as e-Ink, I'll keep my old-fashioned Kindle.

I agree with that. I don't want to stare at an LCD screen for long periods of time while reading. It probably isn't good for your eyes. It certainly hurts my eyes.

Plus, the LCD screen sucks battery life, big time. I don't want to have to charge the device so frequently.

I'm sure that iPads are wonderful for many other applications, but as a book reader that I want to use daily, I'm not impressed.

Genuine question here, I am not an Apple fan but have to admit I love the look of the iPad as a device, can anyone tell me what is it's best use?

It could possibly replace several of my devices, but be just ok at delivering what they do, is having it all in one device enough reason to have one? It is not powerful enough to replace my Acer Tab, my mp3 player is better sounding and smaller, my Kindle 3 has a nicer reading screen.......

Personally I would hate it if Amazon went down the tablet path - it is an ereader and should be the best at what it does, and not a jack-of-all-trades iPad wannabe.
