Glad to see him gone from Apple (I'm not exactly rooting for Apple) but as a fellow human being, I wish him luck in his struggle with cancer (or whatever else it may be).

But he did steal my money by helping to increase the prices of eBooks.
That is a joke right?

If raising prices is stealing, then all but the truly destitute ( those with nothing to sell) are guilty.

Prices rise and fall according to supply and demand. even if the supply is being manipulated and prices artificially increased, (Gas and gold and diamonds come to mind)

When a necessity of life such as water or air or all forms of food are withheld to make a profit this could be construed as stealing or even murder.

Charging more for an ebook is only stealing if someone is forcing you to buy it.

I understand the frustration when someone in a low paying job cannot afford to pay full price for every ebook they want, but there are other options such as libraries, second hand pbooks, demanding a raise etc. . Not so easy for those who cannot afford to buy food and have no job.

Pancreatic cancer has one of the highest fatality rates of all cancers and the vast majority of people who contract it will end up dying from it. Jobs had a rarer form that's less aggressive, so he's survived longer.

I wish him well and hope he'll be able to enjoy some quality time with his family and friends.

A couple of good write-ups:

Quote:
Today’s announcement is just one more step, albeit a big and sad one, in a long-planned orderly transition — a transition that no one wanted but which could not, alas, be avoided. And as ever, he’s doing it his way.
Quote:
"I think regardless of who is in what job, those values are so embedded in this company that Apple will do extremely well.”
Eric Schmidt also had very nice things to say. I'm sure Bill Gates will too.

Now, rumors are rife that Apple is working on re-inventing another common device: the TV. The secretive company won't say a word about that, but based on Mr. Jobs' track record, nobody should be surprised if it happens

I guess new iTV device will be embedded directly into eyes...

Like him or not, I think Jobs is a genius. I'm sorry about his failing health.

I like this quote from the NYTimes:

Quote:
Great products, Mr. Jobs once explained, were a triumph of taste, of “trying to expose yourself to the best things humans have done and then trying to bring those things into what you are doing.”

Big loss for Apple Inc., but not exactly a surprise. The way his health has been the last several years, the only question was when will he step down?

It will be interesting to see the direction Apple takes in the future. Since Tim Cook is Jobs's hand-picked successor, I think we can assume that he is very much in the same mould, so perhaps it will be business as usual.
