What interesting times we live in: The number one PC manufacturer by volume announced it was leaving that business this week, the company that kicked off the cellular phone market was acquired by Google last week, and today Jobs retired.

2011 will be remembered as a crucial year for many reasons.

Meh nothing lasts forever. Companies change and come and go all the time.

The greediest man in the world.

I bet they kept in as Chairman of the Board just to keep the stock from tanking, which it might have done if he resigned completely. I don't think it takes much to read between the lines and see he is losing his battle with cancer, otherwise he would not have given up the CEO position. The man is too damn greedy and power hungry to let go of anything unless he had no choice.

Maybe for you, but for me my memory of him will be because of marketing the first computer easy for me to navigate (yes I know Wozniak created it). I remember when the first apple came to our college (AppleIII though we did have earlier models) & I found it sooooo much easier to use than IBM DOS.

Easier to use? Nope. MS-DOS was easier to use. My TRS-80 Model I was easier to use once I upgraded and added in a floppy drive. I did have an Apple II. So I know what I speak from experience.

JSWolf, try reading what PomTroll wrote. Not what YOU thought was easier to use, what PomTroll found easier to use.

As much as I detest Apple's business practices and anti-competitive/anti-innovation orientated law suits, I still believe that Apple make good kit.

Though not big on Steve Jobs either, I certainly do wish him the very best of health in his future life away from the very demanding position he held as CEO of Apple.

That's a very elegant way of leaving a company without creating a storm.

I hope this discussion shows people here have more character than to tear down someone when they are indeed as down as a person can get in life. Don't like the man, fine but respect the life. It's not like Jobs came to your house and stole your puppy.

But he did steal my money by helping to increase the prices of eBooks.
