I would stay away from the Archos. It has a terrible touchscreen (not very responsive) and low ram. I almost bought the 10.1, and I'm glad that it was sold out at the time!

Yeah, careful with which Archos you look at...many of the older models use a resistive touch screen. Those can wear out or just break pretty quickly, Not saying it will but be aware that resistive screens are very old technology. You want at minimum a capacitive touch screen.

You probably might want to avoid the Viewsonic as well. I believe it too has a resistive screen. If not it's pretty low resolution and really for just $100 more, give or take, you can get a far better screen.

I am hunting a tablet still myself. I'm going to hold out until either Amazon's Kindle is announced or early next year. I have an eye on the Lenovo's myself. If I happen to visit HP's site to find the 8GB version in stock I'll nab one of them as well and hope someone gets HC ported over. If not it's still a nice media player, color ereader and web surfing for $100. Nothing comes close really.

My birthday is at the end of September so I have some time. Hopefully some of the new tablets will be released by then. I would like to have something by the end of October so I might just have to be patient.

New Kindle tablet(s) should be out by then. I'm waiting to see what they look like before I make a decision. Like you, I've got a birthday coming in September, so that may be what I get for myself.

No 8GB version of the TouchPad. However, the 16GB is $99 and 32GB, $149. Might be worth checking HP website today. The product pages are now showing as "Coming Soon" instead of "Out of Stock" so they might be selling more today.

Unless Amazon sells their tablet for a heavy loss, they won't be able to come close to the TouchPad's pricing. Granted, I do believe their tablet might be available for around the same price as the Nook Color.

I am not certain I want to get a device that is not going to be supported. I tend to be the type of person who buys one thing and sticks with that brand until I am convinced that another brand would work better.

So I have three IPods and three Kindles. I am ready to move if I need to but would prefer not having to. The HP tablet would be something that I would be moving from in a few years. While the price is great, that is a turn off for me.

There is a lot that will happen in that time frame. Quad cores are slated to be released. You might find a few of the quality models drop to make room for these new devices. Just like the iPad dropped in price when the iPad2 came out.

Amazon is rumored to release their tablet. They will have an economical model and high end model. My fear is that they will be heavily tied to Amazon much like the nook. And for me that loses it's value. Im hoping I'm wrong and Amazon does release a full android tablet for cheap with Amazon integration and google integration as well.

If there is no need for one now wait maybe you can pick up a used model for cheap once the quad cores come out.

I have been waiting for Amazon to announce the silly thing. With my luck, they will announce it right after I get something.

I would be happy with a current Galaxy if the price drops. It would do what I need it to do and is suppose to be high quality.

. I just bought my Kindle 3G yesterday. If something better or new arrives (and really worth the money) I will think about it. But I started to enjoy my Kindle 3G since yesterday!

I am going to use the tablet mainly when traveling so I don't feel rushed. Since I am going to use it mainly for traveling, I am having a hard time with buying a Galaxy because of the cost.

I can wait for new tablets to come out since I am not feeling any pressure.

I actually think that's the best feature ever

... being heavily tied to a great online bookstore like Amazon is better than being tied to B&N.

However, I am more interested on seeing what they are going to do in the eink space. Too many tablets, the market is flooded.

Actually, that's only half-true. The 10" market is getting flooded. The smaller sizes are still very much underdeveloped. If you look at the 7"-ers, you have the Nook Color (which must be rooted), the upcoming Acer Iconia A100 and the HTC Flyer.

And if Amazon is working on a tablet, I think it'll be in the 7" space.

If there is news about (substantial!) before the Iconia comes out, I might consider it (if it's in my price range and has the functions I want).
