Oh yeah?
![]() FWIW I've been using Lion since day one and have had no problems. None. OTOH my teenage daughter manages to regularly grey-screen her Macbook running Snow Leopard... <shrug> Cheers, Pete. |

Doesn't happen with all Macs, just specific models with specific hardware. Guess you were lucky.

Well, that's not really a surprise, but my order of the Snow Leopard DVD was canceled: the product is obsolete! I'll just wait a few months or weeks and order the Lion USB stick. Or maybe nothing at all.
I used to think that I could safely upgrade my OS for the first three years after buying a new Mac, but I'm not sure that's still true any more, things are accelerating. I've got a 2009 MacBook Pro, isn't that one of the models that have problems with Lion? Maybe I should just keep my old OS, I don't know. |

I just checked on the French Apple store, and the price of the USB stick (with free shipping) is almost exactly the same as Snow Leopard DVD + shipping + Lion update. I guess I'll go that second way if Apple actually agrees to ship the DVD. At least I can be sure I will have a stable and better supported OS, and if the bug reports get better I can still upgrade to Lion later and not have paid more.

Off topic, but I've got a question/problem maybe Mac users here can help me with. I use Time Machine for backups. It can't backup to more than one target volume at a time. So I've been backing up my internal drive (0.75 TB) using Time Machine to an external (2TB). I also want to backup a 2nd external 2TB to a 3rd external 2TB automatically. They're just stand alone drives, not in any kind of RAID setup. It's a hassle to have to remember to manually point Time Machine at the different origin and target volumes.
So does anyone know of some good 3rd party backup software I can setup in one fell swoop (instead of using Time Machine so awkwardly) that will automatically backup 2 source volumes to 2 target volumes with no muss or fuss? |

I have SuperDuper! make a bootable clone of my computer, and I just manually backup every couple weeks or so. If my Mac dies, I can just boot up with the Superduper! drive and be back up immediately. I use Time Machine for the incremental daily backups, but I find the every hour thing just unnecessary, so I use TimeMachineEditor to have it just backup every morning. But, SuperDuper! has quite a few scripting features that might meet your needs, one feature will automatically start a backup when you connect an external drive-and it remembers which drive backs up which volumes, etc. It will also do a Smartbackup, i.e. just the files that changed. |

Time Machine Editor may be useful for those rare times I don't want backups to interfere, or just changing Time Machine to backup less frequently than per hour. Nice to have the option. SuperDuper looks worth the $28 to enable the scheduling option. And make a bootable clone. ![]() Thank you, kjk. Last edited by unboggling; 09-04-2011 at 08:17 PM. |

I haven't had any problems with OSX Lion since I updated my Macbook Pro (2011). I agree that it did got a bit "heavier", but my 8GB of RAM and quad-core i7 are enough to make it a seamless experience for me. The booting did got really slower though. I wish I had a SSD!

I have had my Calibre's entire library deleted/lost/vanish/disappear/crash with my MAC OS X LION upgrade. I have had two 2 long discussions/talks/help with Kindle's Customer Service. They have been competent/great at helping fix/resolve incompatible crashes/lost/loss of books with KINDLE FOR MAC APPS. I cannot say no problems. I wish I could. I am disappointed/frustrated with what has happened. I have tried to fix/repair but cannot. I will have to start from the beginning. I am glad I saved the titles and authors names separately along with books paid for/purchased. Any feedback will be thankful/appreciated. Thanks.
