I'm going to try that later, maybe when he's asleep in my lap and relaxed. The notch is pretty far up and on the underside of the claw. I'm not sure how it happened, unless the thread itself really dug into it when he was jerking so hard to get loose. Poor baby -- it was pretty traumatic for both of us!

I wonder if a coat of nail polish (or super glue) would fill in the notch, so it's less of a problem?

Have you ever tried putting a dab of super glue on a live cat?
The mental images are unforgettable!
Anything that smells (like super glue or nail polish) would irritate most cats into chewing it off.

I think I could have done it a few minutes ago. I looked over at him and he was lying upside down with his eyes half-opened but kind of fixed. I couldn't see any breathing. I grabbed him and shouted his name, thinking for sure he had died of stress or something. Then he groaned and rolled over and glared at me.

I can't even tell you how many times I've done this.... they always hate me afterwards. And I usually feel like an idiot.

LOL! My eyes have gotten significantly worse lately, and Tim has caught me sleeping with my eyes open a couple of times recently. So I can relate to your dog.

Stupid breathing. Yesterday was a bad day, feeling really tight in the chest and my heart pounding, not super fast but really loud. Luckily, after a nap I felt a lot better. Today was okay until I went to do shopping with my mom. When I got back home I was out of breath, the rest of the day I had that out of breath feeling in my throat, without being out of breath.

Just had a bit of a panic moment when I was checking symptoms of breathing wrong on the internet. I also checked out symptoms for heart problems and they are virtually the same, but a lot of symptoms are also present with anaemia. I know for 95% sure it's a breathing problem (maybe linked with anaemia), the first time I had this problem, although not as bad as at the moment, my doctor checked my blood pressure and listened to my heart before coming to the conclusion that I'm probably breathing wrong.

The fact that I'm worrying about it is probably also not helping. I've got an appointment with my physiotherapist on Monday but that feels a long time away. Going to see if my own form of meditation works (it did a couple of nights ago), at least it might calm me down a bit.

Sounds like it could be asthma -- have you been checked for that? (I may have forgotten, if you already said you had)

It wouldn't surprise me if it is a lung disease (my mother has chronic bronchitis) but I've had it the first time two months ago, which lasted a couple of days, and now again since the weekend. It just doesn't seem logic to me that there's 2 months between asthma attacks plus I know that I (often) breath wrong.

My doctor told me to go to a physiotherapist to find out if I'm breathing wrong (too shallow) and I didn't because the problems disappeared over the weekend the first time. Yesterday I was thinking about making another appointment with my doctor but he would probably tell me to go to the physio as he told me before, and rightly so.

Luckily I've got a nice physiotherapist, he's a good acquaintance of my father, plus he's very down to earth and I'm sure he's going to make his own diagnoses and not follow my doctors diagnoses blindly.

It's true that it's been a stressful two weeks and I get stressed easily and I'm a worrier, can't remember anything stressful about 2 months ago though. I've been reading about chronic hyperventilation and I've got a lot of those symptoms, such as yawning and sighing often. But I shouldn't try to diagnose myself and wait until Monday. Until that time I'll do relaxing breathing exercises a couple of times a day.

Do a google search on Mitral Valve Prolapse. Although it's fairly common, only a certain percentage of people who have it actually have symptoms, and those symptoms are very similar to what you are having. I have it, and was VERY symptomatic in my 20's. Although it's a pretty benign condition, I was put on beta blockers just to control my symptoms, and I took them for many years. Now that I'm older and calmer, I've been able to come off of them and other than a fast heart rate and occasional "flutters" I feel fine. I can't help but wonder if that is what is going on with you. It all sounds so familiar...

Thank you for the suggestion, I'm certainly going to keep it in mind.
Even if it's just for my own piece of mind I'm still suspecting it's shallow breathing/chronic hyperventilation, not only because of the symptoms but also because I know I breath wrong. I can't do anything but wait until Monday and what my physio's diagnosis is going to be. Until that time I keep doing my breathing exercise a couple of times a day, it seems to help, and try not to stress out too much.

Bluddy cat!

Mr M did not come home all day. he ususally goes out early in the morning, comes back for breakfast then comes and goes all day. Today he went out at dawn and did not come back until after dark. I was at the gym wondering where he might be.

Soooooo. He can hardly walk. His back legs are almost dragging. So worries me on the phone before I get home. have you checked him for ticks?....YES. he doesn't appear to be too sore anywhere, but drags his hind legs low if you force him to walk. Bear in mind he appeared at the back door, which means he had to jump up and down over a 6' fence to get in the back yard.

When I got home I gave him food which he ate. good sign that death is not imminent, I hope. I will search him for swellings in the morning. I bet he had some cat biffo this morning and is feeling sorry for himself. *remembers the carry on last time*
