We can change avatars any old time we want?!

I used to use avatars as a means of poster identification, but after joining several forums, I quickly figured out that people change them like they change their underwear. I adjusted. It wasn't that hard.

I used to change avatars, but an MR member who no longer comes here (Taylor514ce...remember him?) made this one for me and I've never changed it (except for a minor demasking I save for Pooh's MR Murder Theatre stories).

No your not I too get confused. But only when I don't interact with the person there are a few folks that I can identify even when they change their Avatar.

I don't change my avatar to often.

The changing avatars can befuddle me too. Whenever I see a certain tuxedoed penguin, I think it's bOb. And I still think of Nate the Great with the green ogre avatar he used when I first joined up.

However, I too have never had a problem identifying JWolf's rotating penguins...they're at least "on a theme".

I don't change my avatar. I think it is my "face" for other members. I don't change my real life face besides natural degradation.
Also, it is a fairly true depiction of myself. So, I stick to it.

I always block JSWolf's penguins because he changes them all the time. I blocked some other ugly "faces".
Unfortunately, a couple of months ago I made a very hard decision (I still regret it, but I cannot change my mind) and blocked an avatar of a friend. I just could not stand it anymore because I believe she is a much better/nicer/warmer/sweeter person the her avatar. This avatar didn't represent her personality in my mind.

I never change mine. It's the same wherever I post. As for others changing theirs; it doesn't bother me in the least. To each his own.

I only have one here, on other forums I don't bother. It took me a long time to find one that I liked and that does reflect me too.
I like most avatars here, only the penguins keep confusing me since many use them here now (it used to be only Jon, so that was simple). Penguins are confusing animals.....

DH did not know my name here, but he recognized me immediately in a thread because of the avatar, so I guessed I chose the right one. Avatar I meant, not Husband.

Edited: The husband, I am SURE I chose right.

I have different avatars for different sites, depending on what the convention is at any particular site. Some seem to favor pictures of yourself, so I do that, and one rotates between new themes every month, and I update accordingly. I usually use a panda avatar until I figure out what the "norm" is, and if there isn't one, I leave it.

Not too long ago I was in a thread that was over half cat avatars, and I switched mine and have just left it.

If I'm not familiar with an avatar, I usually can visually identify a poster with their signature, if not their name. It doesn't bother me when people constantly switch; I'm only bothered when multiple people have nearly identical avatars.

The one that I have here is usually for techie forums.
Another one, the same that I have on Goodreads, is for book forums that mostly are fantasy related.

I haven't changed my avatar since I joined the site. It just wouldn't feel right to me (I think somebody described it as their face - that seems about right to me). My avatar also contains a clue to my real surname, so it's appropriate.

I do get thrown when regular posters change their avatar (I tink pooh_bear changed his fairly recently and that threw me), but it's not something that really bothers me greatly.
