HP Touchpad 16GB for about $85, 32GB for $135. - Page 3

Still no significant price reduction in the UK. At £75 I'd have got one just for playing with. But I phoned the UK HP store, and they couldn't give me a price at all. Amazon UK have them listed for £312/£399 - nowhere near enough discount for an impulse purchase.

16GB iPad 2 for £399 or 32GB Touchpad for £399. Who would buy the Touchpad?

It's not really surprising that HP have abandoned them. It's much more surprising that they ever brought them to market at the original price points.

Agreed. It needs to be sub £100 for impulse purchasing. I'd have grabbed one at £75, possibly two

It's ironic that the sales rep said they have too much stock to shift to warrant a price drop. Isn't a price drop exactly what you need to shift stock quickly. £75 would also hit the spot for, better buy it now before everyone else buys and they sell out :P

I'm a little concerned, because although my card was taken and I got the confirmation email and invoice, I later got an email saying:

"Unfortunately we may have a problem with progressing your order within the timescale indicated on our website."

Not sure how this is going to pan out...

Yes, one thing that may explain the email to me was that my order went through with Home Delivery available. It was there for the 16 GB but not for the 32 GB. The server was crunching on the larger device so I went for the smaller, which had the added bonus that I'm 20 miles from a Currys.

I now see that neither device is showing home delivery, so this may have been an error when the changes were first put up on the website and Currys may now be mulling over whether to send the tablet to me for free or not...

A recorded message from HP Sales said that new stock may be available next week. Thought I might have snagged one at cdw.com, but got a cancellation notice after the order was processed.

Have wanted one of these since they were announced, but couldn't spring for the $500. The $99 price point is even a bit more than the budget can handle right now, but it's a rare opportunity. So I eat peanut butter and eggs for a couple of weeks. If I can manage to get one, that is!

The reviews are so-so and now that the WebOS is no longer supported, chances are you wont find more updates or software for the thing. No Android hack for it yet so you might hope one comes out but thats a bit of a guess.

It's not like the device will suddenly stop functioning altogether if/when HP drops support. Most of the performance issues can be remedied by overclocking to 1.7 GHz (might be at the expense of battery life, though). At the very least, it'll make for a decent portable media player without having to go through hoops with iTunes and given the device supports Flash, it should deliver a pretty decent web browsing experience (although it's nice not being subjected to Flash ads on the iPad and non-Flash Android).
