Help me search? Please?

Situation:

I have all date columns hidden (else it'd be easy)
I want to find last-added books.
Don't remember exact date, could be maybe last week, maybe this week.
Can't find right expression into search bar

date:=today -46 books
date:=yesterday -13 books
pubdate:=2011 -26 books
are working, showing correct books but are no help

date:=21 aug 2011 -search field green, zero books (should be 13)
date:=aug 2011 -search field green, 1 book (should be 59)
pubdate:=apr 2011 -search field green, zero books (should be 6)

I have no idea what to modify.
In my mind I see something like: 'search last 5 days'. Nothing? then try 'search last 8 days'. Etc.
But if I can't get even 13 books added on certain date to show up...

I'm totally stymied.

I believe a Green field is just a marker that the search term is Syntactically correct.
