Is there a list somewhere of the apps for the Touchpad? I assume no more will be added.

At the hp.com site there is a discount code for $15 off $75. SAVE15HP
For $30 off $150 it's SAVE30HP

I don't know if the Touchpad will be excluded.

No, that would be the actual price if you buy them separately. From the manufacturer of the laptop they would be more expensive, as you can see if you look for custom made laptops: if it is originally offered with the 2.00Ghz i7, and you want more speed, you have to pay over $300 extra.

"What we want to do is deliver an increasing level of value to these customers, but there are some customers which we choose not to serve. We don't know how to make a $500 computer that's not a piece of junk; our DNA will not let us do that. We've seen great success by focusing on certain segments of the market and not trying to be everything to everybody, and you can expect us to stick with that winning strategy."

Why Apple Leaves Low-End Computers to the Competition

While competitors such as Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), Acer, and Dell (DELL) sell vast volumes of $500 laptops that yield razor-thin profit margins, Apple—whose cheapest MacBook sells for $999—is raking in the lion's share of the industry's profits.

--

Apple also disdains the mass marketers' credo that there should be a product tailored to every taste. HP's U.S. online store offers 35 different laptop models, from a $300 netbook to $1,300-plus monster with an 18.4-in. display, each of which is available in multiple configurations. Apple offers just five laptops, and the options for configuring them are limited to disk size, amount of memory, and sometimes processor speed.

--

the philosophy still works, and, happily, Apple is unlikely to outgrow it.

That promo list is quite misleading, being just a small sample. The webOS app store has well over 300 apps optimized for the TouchPad. Dunno if the TouchPad can run webOS apps meant for the cellphones, but if it can, that's another few thousand apps (I hear), though unoptimized for the tablet.

Must be using a different translator... I read this as Apple are an extremely successful business, know what markets they are dealing with and don't care to go for the bottom end.

If you don't like their prices then you know what to do, don't buy 'em and the same for their other products but because you don't like the prices doesn't mean they're too expensive... just too expensive for you...

Personally, I use an Android tablet rather than an iPad because it does things I want that an iPad doesn't and it was a lot cheaper but if it met my needs then I'd have happily gone for an iPad... same with iPhone, I got A Galaxy II S because of an insane deal that went with having the phone free but I'd have considered an iPhone with the same deal...

Really? Why are their PC sales climbing?

Quote:
Mac sales were up almost 14 percent year-over-year. Apple sold 3.95 million Macs, which didn't quite top its previous 4.1 million unit record, but it's still a record for the June quarter. Cook also noted that year-over-year growth beat the industry average considerably. "To grow at 14 percent when the market is growing at 2.6 pecent is certainly something to be proud of," he said during Tuesday's earnings call.
Here is why:

Quote:
Apple designs some of the best PC hardware you can buy, and its designs use the same parts as a Windows PC...Even in Redmond, I’m told, some senior Microsoft executives consider Macs the perfect hardware on which to run Windows.
He's a Windows writer.

Why is that? Looking at your device list, disposable income isn't too great of a problem.
