Now, $1.99 is an excellent price for back-list ebooks, especially seeing as Amazon are currently selling them at about $8 each. If the offer is available to people outside the US (in particular the UK), I think I might not be able to resist.
When Cotillion was available as a freebie a couple of months ago, I bought and read it. And was reminded how very well written her books are. I read a bunch of them back in the 70's, and am looking forward to re-reading them now. But I have no idea if this will be extended to Amazon UK.

I won't say I am addicted but do read quite a few ebooks. In fact, I buy and read more ebooks than regular print books.

It doesn't count, does it, it you have a friend that has never seen a Kindle in action. One must show off and with the 3G to show how a book can be purchased sitting in the kitchen. Oh what, you did not see that, well let me just do it again. That doesn't count as an actual "purchase". That is teaching, or showing off or something.

What a marvellous justification. I congratulate you.

Hopefully they were at least on your wishlist?

So, I'm curious. Did these show up for you at the UK equivalent of $1.99? Or are you still locked out from the discount?

In the UK Kindle store they're still a lot more than the equivalent of $1.99. It certainly looks like it's a US-only deal.

But in other news.... I've just bought another webscription month - July 2011. 7 new books (I already had one of them) for $18.

But they're not really for me, honest. I'm lending them (& my Kindle!) to my sisters-in-law. But I think they still count, as I'm certainly going to read them at some point.

Ah, I have the July 2011 Webscription. Bought mostly for Saltations and Ring of Fire III. Now trying to decide if I should pop for the October 2011 Webscriptions. I've got one already (Cryoburn), and nothing else in it is getting me excited. More likely to go for the November bundle.

I was doing fine post-Random House's capitulation, but I've had a major stumble. The Heyer sale got me. Far worse, I know nothing of Heyer and bought twelve books on spec, which is a major no-no. My only mitigating factors are that I figured the mysteries were a safe bet as I like period detective stories and I was cagey enough to purchase only one of the regency romances at first, so I could try before I took the plunge. I'm relieved to say that while I see that they're very good of the type, with witty dialogue and terrific period detail, they're still not my kind of thing. So I kept a setback from escalating into a full-out debacle.

However, while my original plan for 2011 was to get my ebooks-purchased to ebooks-read ratio down to 1:1, that's no longer possible. I'd have to read 30 purchased ebooks by the end of the year which would essentially eliminate public domain, library books and pbooks. Not happening.

What are these regular print books you talk about? Vaguely, I seem to have some lost neurons that might now something about those...

I bought my first book in 3 months, yesterday! Or rather, it's an omnibus. But if book 1 is $10, book 2 is $10 and book 3 is $10 and the omnibus is $10 and I've been wanting those books for a few years already, it's okay, isn't it?

You never mentioned anything about the temptation over the last week. How can we as a group help you if you don't ask for help? Admitting the problem is only the first step, seeking support and guidance is also important.

I have been tempted by the Heyer sale, since I've heard such good things about her work. If the sale offer had been available in the UK, I suspect I would have bought the lot. But since I'd have to do a fair amount of fiddling to get around the regional restrictions, I've managed to resist. I have been prompted to read one of her books that I got as a freebie a while back. Fun so far, and I suspect I would like her other books.

Only three days since I last bought an ebook.

Even though I am busy plowing through a stack of cozy mysteries, I did pick up an Epub of CJ Cherryh's The Paladin today.

But it doesn't count because I had already had an old PDB copy from Peanut press that I converted to .mobi that got messed up a little in conversion before and this is a cleaned up Epub that fixes the errors.

And it was only five dollars anyway from Baen and it shouldn't count if its really cheap.
