It's difficult because you need 4 times more capsules for 1 pixel instead compared to the grayscale to get the color. This is why the pixel count is low and also why it's slow, as you need more processing speed to get the same result.

Ms Rowling's representatives have now (12:30 17 August UK time) been back in touch. They say that in fact Harry Potter e-books will be made available for all platforms simultaneously via the Pottermore website: there will be no period during which it will be available only with the Sony reader, as we had previously understood.

Actually, wasn't it mentioned earlier that proceeds from the ebook sales will go to charity? I seem to recall reading something to that effect when Pottermore was first launched.

May be trivial for you, but when I use things like that, it will show that there are pages, but not the pages themselves. Besides, if I must jump through several hoops, it might as well not exist. That's why I stopped buying from Fictionwise.

You're right: if you go in through "hidemyass" it doesn't show the pages, for whatever reason. But if you click the "Preview this book" link it will then give you download options for PDF and ePub. The PDF version is the page scan (which is what I download); the ePub version is a generally pretty bad raw OCR.

But that would be extra. I mean that even with the original understanding of the article I would have expected sony to hand over the due percentage from the book sales.

If ALL proceeds are going to charity (which I doubt), I can't imagine why Rowling would care that much about maximizing sales. If it turns out that a million slipped through the cracks somewhere in sales, she can make it up from her $500 million fortune, no?

I forget which article, but at least one of them has had an update to say it's not true about Sony being exclusive. But maybe Sony will be exclusive in terms of being able to sell an HP themed reader with all the HP eBooks bundled on board. That would still be pretty good.

I'm hoping this means the Kindle will support ePub. But I doubt it. I can't see Amazon caving even though it is better for customers.

Yes, that would be the article which made the claim, and thus spawned a few days' worth of uninformed, incorrect and wild speculation on how the HP ebooks will be handled.
