I happen to have flown on 6-8 (I can't remember already) legs around the US from different airports on different equipment in the last few months, and have found the seat lights fine for my K3 and me in all cases.
Also, on my first of those flight out of Newark, the TSA person standing right adjacent to me called out "If you have a Kindle, take it out and put in the tray!" Seeing as how she was THAT specific, and apparently possessed of either x-ray vision or mind-reading powers, I dug my kindle out of the laptop case I was carrying.
That was the only leg of the 6 or 8 where they mentioned it. All other times it stayed in the laptop case and they didn't seem to care.

Seems like the enforcement policies are inconsistent and depend on who you get that day at security. I fly through Newark often, including just a few weeks ago. I have never had to remove my ereader out of my bag at any airport, domestic or international. Now that I wrote that, I will probably have to remove it on my next trip!

It's not a nationwide thing at all -- I just flew through two airports, and neither one cared at all about my e-reader.
