As with music, whenever the author has their own site I buy direct.

As I learn about who the new crops of writers are I choose self published or small publisher offerings over the bi publishing houses. I encourage family and friends to do the same.

Toddos, I didn't realize Discover gave a 15% cash back on B&N ebooks. I've been using a B&N mastercard for instant rebates, but that's a much better deal. I'll have to update my payment info...

So far about evenly split between Sony and Kobo - though since Kobo changed their policy and will only bill me in euro, I have to weigh in the "foreign transaction charges." Still, on some books, Kobo has a much better price than the Sony store.

For public domain books, I use the MobileRead library.

For books that are out-of-print or that contain just a tiny bit of information needed for a research project, I check Google Books (the Kindle's web browser is compatible with the online Google Reader).

For books not available in the public domain and/or for when I'm in the mood for an impulse buy, I check Amazon. When I'm in the mood for sci-fi, I check Baen.

Make sure you go to B&N through the ShopDiscover portal, or cookies and such won't be set properly to give you the proper amount of cashback. And it seems to vary month by month whether it's 10% or 15%, but I've never seen it lower than 10%.

I picked Amazon since I do most of my reading on Kindle, and it's the most convenient for me.

I use Kobo mostly, mainly because I have never run afoul of geographical restrictions as I have at the Sony Store.

Not sure, as I don't use ebates. I suspect the folks over at slickdeals.net could help figure that one out, though (they're masters of stacking discounts)

All things being equal I'm an Amazon girl.

I love those Kobo coupons though.

Books on Board is my first place to shop. There customer service is great too. Then I look in Smashwords, & Kobo. I will admit I check out the ratings for books at Amazon to help me decide on the books I want to buy.

I buy the most from B&N, followed by Baen. Baen because I like their authors, B&N because it's easy to scrub the DRM scum off my ebooks. Plus I think B&N's deals are just as good as Amazon's, and I don't have to convert from mobi to epub.

I always convert epub to epub after scrubbing DRM anyway. This way, calibre fixes up suboptimal OEBPS folder layouts, over-generous margins (seriously, who thought 1em margins were a good idea?), possible TOC issues, etc. And with recent versions of Calibre it even automatically saves the original epub in case the conversion didn't turn out well.

And that's assuming I don't open the epub in Sigil and start fixing stuff by hand anyway. So many poorly constructed and formatted epubs out there, so little time!

Sony. My reader is from Sony, so I shop at Sony. So far, everything I have wanted they have had available.

I have a Sony and am not interested in stripping DRM, so I can't shop on Amazon.

I use Books on Board pretty much exclusively. I've never yet found anything that I want that they don't have yet someone else does.
