Welcome to MR Desertranger, yes, since my wife became disabled, I have a whole litany of rants around the treatment of disabled people. Many of them revolve around the illegal use of handicapped parking places.

On the other hand, when someone helps her get something off the top shelf, or holds the door for her, or any of the other thoughtful things folks do, it’s very touching how very kind some people can be.

I thought Macs were virus free. Kidding.

Dangit. Is there something like malwarebytes for Mac? It's served me well in the past for a PC.

Thank you all for your sweet words.

I'm already missing her a lot, because she was a cat that didn't like to be alone and was usually around.

I also told our neighbour who took her and her brother Mouse in when their mother was run over by a car. A couple of hours later she brought us a very sweet card.

I'm glad it was fast, although I would have preferred if it'd happened in her sleep. If she would have gotten some illness that would have meant many trips to the vet we would have put her down because she always became very upset and took days to recover from vet visits.

Lexie knows something is going on, this afternoon she kept walking though the house meowing. She is being spoiled at the moment and gets lots of cuddle (not always that appreciated, LOL).

Thanks again everyone.

The only good thing is that Lexie can now relax more. Nikita tolerated her mostly but at times went after her, when Kita was around Lexie was always very careful.

I can't imagine how it will be without Nikita. During the day she was often with us in the store, waiting for lunch so she could beg for a treat (after lunch she usually went upstairs to take a nap). Also no more complaining when I'm in bed at night when she got told off for stealing Lexie's food. Or the way she always came mumbling and complaining out of my closet when I was listening to music.
Oh hon, I am so sorry! *hugs*

@Rumpelteazer The loss of a pet is a hard thing. To send one across the Rainbow Bridge is the hardest thing one can do. But now that they play there, each looking for his handler, owner and best friend. For that day shall come and you shall meet again on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

For tonight I shall open my windows and wish upon a star then leave a place in the garden for puppies to dance and Nikita may join them.

Sorry to hear that. Always a very sad time, and one I dread, as our kids have little experience of pets passing.

There's very little protection possible against Trojans. If you download something and agree to install and run it... Sigh.

The only Trojan that I know of at the moment is 'MacDefender' (known by various names) that pretends to be a virus scanner.

Here's a video describing it and how to delete it:
http://macmost.com/mac-defender-trojan.html

A text description instead:
http://www.reedcorner.net/news.php/?p=138

and if you can't follow links, what seem to be some good removal instructions from one of the Apple forums:

TO REMOVE use the following steps which are very effective at removing this particular piece of malware:

1. Go to | Apple Menu | >> | System Preferences | >> | Accounts | >> | Login Items | (Located to the right of the account name)

2. From the Login Items list, click on Mac Defender or Mac Protector to select it (the item should now be highlighted)

3. Click on the Minus Symbol ( - ) which is located below that list (the item should dissapear from the list)

4. Restart your computer

5. Once logged in, on the top menu bar click on | Go | >> | Applications |

6. Inside the Applications folder look for Mac Defender or Mac Protector and drag the item to the Trash.

7. From the same Finder window, on the left column, click on the House icon which has the name of your account next to it. Then open the Downloads folder on the right.

8. Inside the Dowloads folder you might find macdefender.mpkg or macprotector.mpkg >> Move the items with such names to the trash.

9. Empty the Trash

10. As a preventive measure, open Safari and go to the top menu | Safari | >> | Preferences | >> | General | >> Uncheck the option "Open safe files after downloading" which is located at the bottom of the window.

That's pretty much what I did. Norton failed to fix the problem after three scans, so I went into my son's account and deleted everything in his Java cache, which is where all the viruses were located, then emptied the trash. A fourth scan showed no problems. I had to do it once before when my grandson downloaded some malicious files to the computer.

I keep that Mac around so they'll keep their hands off my Hewett-Packard. If they manage to get all these viruses and trojans on a Mac, I'd hate to see what they'd do with a PC.

He would have done just as good a job of getting rid of the virus! Norton seems to do a better job on PCs than it does on Macs.

I bought my PRS-650 last November so when it started behaving strangely a few weeks ago Waterstone's sent it off for repair under the 12 month warranty.

It was sent on 27 July and yesterday (15 August) I called Waterstone's CS to find out what was going on.

Sony say they only received the reader on 12 August (!) and were processing it as a 'pay for' repair as there was no proof of purchase enclosed.

While it is possible that my local branch of Waterstone's may have forgotten to enclose the copy of my receipt, there is no explanation for the 3 week delay in the reader getting to Sony. (I trust the staff in the local branch of Waterstone's - it's only a small shop and I go in there a lot so they know me!)

Also, the repair request form explaining the fault had the purchase date information completed and countersigned by Waterstone's manager. So if they absolutely MUST have a copy of the receipt,(and I don't see why they need that if the repair is authorised by the retailer) why not contact either me or Waterstone's?

So, 3 weeks without my ereader, probably at least another 2 before I'm likely to get it back... I can't believe I'm missing it SO MUCH!!

(Just needed to have a little whinge, finished now, thank you.)

My son's Kindle broke. After phoning Kindle support, a replacement kindle arrive by post within a week, and the old one got picked up by courier the next day.
