I know it's common; have only had my Touch 3 days now and have done 2 (or is it 3) resets so far! And at least two of those happened with NO connection to the PC!

Since getting my KT I have now had the storage error over a dozen times. I always safely remove and wait substantial amount of time before removing. I always get the error after not having it connected to the computer for a while. I have tried loading books with calibre and just drag and drop. When I get the error I can often continue reading with mixed results. Sometimes there are no problems, sometimes I will have a book disappear on me. As of right now, my KT is calling for a factory reset. I keep hitting cancel, but it won't save the location in my book. rather than returning me to the page I'm on, it will return me to the start of the current chapter that I'm on. I'm getting very frustrated with this bug and I'm really hoping it gets resolved soon.

I've been doing just that since it started popping up about a week or so ago...

I've noticed that SOME of my dictionary entries are apparently corrupted as in I get HTML formatting bits as well as what is supposed to be the dictionary entry in a big block of text...

I've got the bug as well. It works as normal except for the error message. I use my file manager to manage the kobo and always remove it properly.

I've had the Factory Reset happen 3 times, and every time it happened when I powered on the KT.

I think I have managed to work around it by disabling the automatic power off setting. I have the Time to Sleep set to 15 min, and Time to Power Off set to Never. (Before, I had Time to Power Off set to 30 min).

Since I have done this, I haven't seen the issue (but I do have to recharge a bit more often!). It has been 16 days since the last time I had to do a Factory Reset.

I hope this gets fixed soon! It must be an obscure bug in how the file system is being handled.

I had the Factory Reset happen to me last night for no discernible reason. I had loaded up books stored on Calibre on Thursday and had been reading one on and off during the next couple of days. I had done the appropriate Eject for the Kobo using the icon on the desktop of the Mac. I have now loaded it up again and so far, so good.

Let's hope the next update can address this, as it could get a bit annoying having to keep on loading back the books, even though each one goes on quickly.

The error happened to me after I loaded a library book via ADE.

After I carefully disconnected the message flashed that there was a atorage error and I needed to do a factory reset. I hit cancel (hoping that was all I had to do to keep reading) and discovered that all my books were gone and I could find nothing, not even the books on my micro sd card.

I powered the unit off and restarted it and suddenly my books reappeared with the exception of the last things I had loaded (and deleted since teh database still thought the book I returned during that last session was still there although the book itself was gone). I plugged the machine back into ADE and carefully disconnected and everything seems to be working fine now (fingers crossed).

Can you please describe more precisely how you carefully disconnected? What steps & any did you put a delay between any step?

RJ; I (and others) are really beginning to feel that the attach to / detach from a PC is a red-herring and that the real issue is not related to any connection being made.

What actions did you take on the other occasion when the Kobo was connected to the PC?

Yes, I understand that, and its a fair conclusion to take. But I am still curious about the possibility that it is related to filesystem unmounting, because that it still the most obvious mechanism. And there has not been another mechanism proposed, other than that the internal flash memory is corrupt, which I would expect not to be so widespread/common.

I am interested in clarifying details to help isolate the causes.

No problem. When I connect my Kobo Touch I only use either ADE or the desktop (I've not used Calibre with the touch and never use bothe ADE and desktop at the same session).

I used the safely remove hardware function (I run Vista Servce Pack 2), cleck on the Kobo Touch, waited until it informed me that the device can be safely disconnected, and finally waited until the drive letter disappeared from that display (there is usually a few seconds between the pop-up saying the drive is safe to disconnect and the drive disappearing from the list of hardware you can disconnect).

Not a programmer myself but given what happened to me last night I suspect the error has to do with the indexing of books/chapters (the database) when it is being updated. That may explain why some people are reporting it (the error) after disconnecting (as the database updates) and while other report it after the powering up the Kobo (where I expect a similar activity happens).

Yep, AFAIC it's a borked fw, as in someone is likely not closing files properly. In the Google dev blogs they ended up writing up an entire section as to how devs should open/close files and dbs and also part of the reason that they are switching to ext4 in newer releases top hopefully, help mitigate some of these problems.

So as long as mine can still read books I'm not going to bother with a factory reset until we get a new fw, as I am certain that this has absolutely nothing to do with connecting/disconnecting to a computer as I have NOT done that in several fw versions now. I download EVERYTHING over WiFi, through the browser plus IIRC when I was xferring stuff I just pulled the uSD and used my nb's builtin card reader.
