There is a threaded view mode. You can switch to it via the display menu, which can be found above and to the right of the first post on the page.

Personally I hate threaded. It's hard to find the newest posts. You have to keep clicking to see more posts. And you can't reply to more than one person in a single post.

I have just reread A Study in Scarlett. Maybe it is "derogatory" toward Mormons. From reading the newspapers, maybe things have not changed much in 100+ years.....
Either way, if I came home and found my 6th grader reading this book, it would make me very proud. It's not TV, video games or strange comic books that you read backwards. It's a real book!

Why isn't anyone else thinking that this kind of decision is what leads to book burning? "Farenheit 451" anyone? Just look at the bible for some offensive material regarding minorities.

I was recently watching this episode of Dr Quinn on youtube; worth a look if you're concerned regarding what the censorship of just one book can lead to:

Deleted, 'cause basically I've got nothing to say about this except that if kids can't be allowed to learn from a wide variety of sources, and learn to think for themselves, we're in big trouble.

I think they lost a valuable chance to teach myself. First they lost the chance to teach how people in the past viewed the Mormons in the 1st place. Questions could have been put in class: Why were they in the deserts of Utah in the 1st place? What was the personal history of Bringham Young? of Joseph Smith? How did the establishment of Salt Lake City impact on the development of the western United States? In what ways did people of that time show intolerance of the beliefs of others? What other religious movements were developing at that same time? etc. There are so many classroom discussions that could have resulted from this book.

There was also an episode of The Waltons where they were going to burn a bunch of books in German without bothering to learn what the actual title's meant. One book when translated was

Why do you think that kids care? In my experience being on the reading list makes a book disliked automatically. So removal makes it more appealing.

Are they going to remove Sign of Four because of the very racist portrayal of the Islander? Perhaps they'll remove 1984 because of all the material which is offensive to the Catholic Church?

I think kids are going to be disappointed that the book isn't just like the movie from a couple years ago.

Personally, as with Huck Finn, Song of the South, Birth of a Nation, and a lot of H. P. Lovecraft's work, I think it should be understood as a cultural artifact and left alone. This is the way many people thought when these works were created.
