Maybe they could do what the Nook ST( as well as the Sony's) did and have both touchscreen and physical page turn buttons.
But, I like the keyboard on my Kindle.. |

For those of you who say you would dislike a touch screen reader, I'd like to ask a few questions.
Have you tried IR touch? If you have, what did you dislike? What is it about a touch screen reader do you not like? |

Yes, I have a Sony PRS-350 with an IR touch screen. What I don't like is that I have fat fingers and find the touch screen to be much less accurate than the Kindle's 5-way controller when it comes to such things as text selection or looking up a word in the dictionary. Sure, there are things it's better for: opening a book, for example, is much easier. But overall I much prefer the Kindle's physical keyboard and 5-way controller.

When I do a side-by-side comparison of my Kindle and my Sony PRS-350 (which uses an IR touch screen) the appearance of the screens is identical. Last edited by HarryT; 08-12-2011 at 01:13 AM. |

I've only had my Kindle3 for a few days, but my opinion...
Touchscreen: No. I actually bought the Kindle because it has a real keyboard. I rather have a small, real keyboard instead of a usually unprecise touchscreen. Especially if I wanna read (!) on that touchscreen. I can't have dozens of fingerprints on it then... Bigger screen: Always nice, but also more expensive. A few things I could think of (although I don't see them as vital): - A faster processor that increases speed - A bigger harddrive or the ability to expand it by SD-card - Expansion of the audio-experimental-program. A manageable tracklist, the ability to go back a track instead of only going forward...that sort of thing. Other than that my first impression of the Kindle3 is very positive, so I currently don't see much room for improvement. But maybe that's just my starter enthusiasm... ![]() |

Actually I have, my aunt brought her Kobo Touch over from the US during a recent visit and the screen had fingerprints on it, similar to the smudges I get on my Kindle screen when I touch it. Not impossible to read but distracting. Admittedly not as bad as LCD screens but still not good. The textured back thing on it also seemed to have several smudges as well.

If Amazon releases a touch screen Kindle, I will buy on day 1. The last few rumors I saw were annoucements for the Tablet and K4 in August, with release dates in October.
I had a chance to play around with the Nook Touch the other day and was quite impressed by the touch interface. I won't stray from Amazon but would like to see a touch reader with no physical keyboard. To those of you worried about fingerprints....don't be. The Nook on display at Best Buy had no fingerprints on it and I'm guessing it gets "touched" a lot. There is no glass screen like you have on smartphones. Oh, Amazon, if you are listening....I want a touch screen but I still want physical page turn buttons!! (yes, I know the Nook Touch has them, and they are nice) I am interested to see what Amazon has up their sleeve because it seems they are the reigning champs with the Kindle and it would almost be a little disappointing if they release something that is very similar to the Kobo and Nook touchscreens. I wonder what will separate them from the pack? |

The only issue I have had with my K3 is with the processor. It seems it has the capacity to store more books than what the processor could handle. I started getting navigation slowdowns at about 800 books and outright crashes at 900. When I got to 1000 books, it just kept rebooting and rebooting. But I had over 1.5 gb of space remaining on the Kindle. More storage space is not useful unless they have a processor that can actually handle that quantity of files. If this is improved, I would consider upgrading since I could sell my K3 and not have to pay too much more.

I type fast. Smartphone, desktop, iPad, whatever... eInk display isn't currently fast enough to keep up. I have tried Nook... I was _very_ impressed with the touchscreen. But I really don't think I could type without carefully watching what was entered onscreen for accuracy; with physical keyboard on Kindle I can be three or four key press ahead of the user interface.
