I think Mobipocket should redo all their software that runs on portable smallish devices like a PDA or cell phone to allow them to resize images to fit the screen so new Mobipocket eBook will ALL have decent sized images suitable for a 6" eink screen.

The PDA version of Mobil Reader, like the Windows desktop version, DOES allow you to resize images. Click on any image and it goes into "image mode", allowing you to zoom in and out, scroll around, etc. Probably wouldn't be very practical on eInk readers due to slow refresh rates.

Is this why some publishers are making images teeeeny? I have a book with an image of a map that's about one inch square which is obviously completely useless to everyone. Maybe they were thinking they had to because of small screen devices? My cybook displays images smaller than the desktop does. The desktop version resizes when I resize the window. I thought the resizing would happen on any reader? And if it does, then people should be using nice large images so at least we can get the best our device can offer.

I think it resizes on all platforms. At least there was no problem with large images on my Palm. The problem is the tool used to create the books. Also jpg might not be supported on all platforms so the 61K limit can restrict the size.

MobiPocket creator can allow images that are larger than the limit also. HarryT has put some books up here with larger images for example. That was the reason I added the functionality to rescale images in mobi2mobi since these books did not work on my Palm. |

I have seen books that use this 3 size feature but don't ask me to find them in my collection. I believe the 61K limit overrides the image size feature so a Palm device won't even load a file with the big images even if it won't use them as it is a database problem.
