I have my alarm clock set for 7AM on weekdays, but that's a laugh, because I wake up whenever my upstairs neighbor wakes up. 6:20 this morning.

Yep, our family has been living above our store for around a 100 years now. Before that I know the store (back then we sold sports articles) was a bit further along the canal and I'm not sure if our family lived over the store then.

I wake up whenever the cats wake up. It's about the only thing cats share ....

Well, I'm currently sitting in my office at work listening to a kitten crying. One of our employees found a stray kitten wandering in the parking lot. We've boxed it and fed it, and am waiting for Animal Control to show up - which they probably won't - so we will drive it over to the shelter ourselves. It really burns me when people dump animals with no thought for their safety or health.

Yes, it's really disgusting when people dump a harmless and defenseless animal somewhere and just leave it to die ... Just disgusting ...

I'm testing out my new digital camera (Canon PowerShot). So far I like it, very easy to use and the pictures seem good quality. I got a really cute one of Oni and Sushi

Happy ending to abandoned kitten post - a coworker fell in love with him - kitten is now at vet getting cleaned, tested, etc. - & will go home at lunch.

We're keeping watch for more kittens - in case he is one of a dumped litter.

@Iridal - wonderful photo - cats are SO cute when they snuggle!

The store still looks great! In this country, we'd have ragged that building in 30 years, tops.

One of my grandfathers at one time used to live in back of his store; a small local grocery. Later, while still running the store, he bought a duplex and lived in the bottom floor of half of it while renting the other half to my father. The floor over him was where his sister lived with her husband. It was a nice way to grow up, with so much of the family there in one place.

Amen. I've been trying for the longest time to convince my wife to allow me to get a companion for Norton.

Well, actually, my motives aren't purely altruistic. He gets rather... amorous... at times.

A big congrats to your co-worker!! It's good to hear yet another abandoned kitten has found a loving home.

Yes, it's going a lot better than I could ever have dreamed. They're the best friends and are always together. Sushi seems a lot happier now that he has someone to play with. Oni is doing great too!

When my great grandfather moved into this building they also lived behind the store, upstairs was (partially) rented to two ladies. There was also a printer at the back and, before or after, a spring manufacturer, although I don't know when. We recently uncovered the wallpaper in what was my grandfather's bedroom, which is now part of the store.

Growing up above the store has its pros and cons. Yes, my father was always there but with the store only being downstairs it always felt that the store was more important than the family. We never really went on vacation, we went to a vacation cottage owned by my grandparents every summer and my father would travel between that and the store all summer. Even now my parents hardly ever go away, the last time was 3 years ago for a long weekend (I managed the store). OTOH, if a light bulb burns out or I need a battery I only need to go down a couple of stairs to get it and my father was, and is, always up to helping with technical projects.
