Unhappy Browser unexpectedly closes

I have had my Entourage Edge for about 5 months now. I have a problem with my web browser often closing unexpectedly. My EE is basically unusuable as a web browser now. I have tried the standard browser, Dolphin, Opera, and Skyfire - all suddenly close within a minute of using. Occasionally, I will have the same problem with apps that require Wifi connections (like the CBS News app). It is like my device is unable to hold onto the wifi connection, but instead of giving me an error, the whole program just shuts down. I have lots of other devices (laptops, netbooks, iPad, iPhone) on the same wifi connection and have not had any issues. The problem seemed to get worse after I upgraded to Froyo. Any ideas how to fix it?? I love my Entourage, but this is a real bummer...

I agree it's a bummer, WDM.Amy!

My EE does that too, but not as regularly as yours seems to, and I have not yet had any problems with wifi connections other than the browser crashing. That is one thing people were hoping would be fixed if we ever got a final version of Ermine (Froyo).

Some people have had success with a particular browser (Dolphin HD for one, Opera Mini6 for someone else), and it never hurts to do a reboot or cool your battery for a while. I have tried Miren, which is a nice browser but did crash on me. Have not tried Skyfire. I also use the browser for Roboform which hasn't crashed yet (but I don't think of using it most of the time), and there's another browser, Xscope I think, that may be good.

Anybody else have suggestions for those of us with EE browser issues??

Oh, I almost forgot -- Welcome to MobileRead, WDM.Amy!

The trick I use is to open the native browser (not set as default), and when clicking a link open a different browser. At least when the second browser errors out, the native browser is still open to the site, albiet, still on the first original page.

Ah-hah! An interesting work-around!

Thanks, Gunner! I will give that a try!

I may be imagining things, but my browser (the native one) has not crashed once since I installed Adobe Flash. I had noticed that it crashed consistently on the full LA Times website, which had a lot of ads and images. I downloaded the Flash version that was tested by others here (thread starts with "Flash" in the archive), rebooted my EE -- probably not a necessary step -- and so far I haven't been able to make it crash!

Can anyone verify or deny my "breakthrough"? I will test it more myself tomorrow.

Flash wasn't a solution, though it still might have helped.

Using Gunner's suggestion.

I love xScope. But it, too, crashes a bunch. The one that hasnt yet is Lastpass browser. but it is limited somewhat. Like it has issues downloading. But it is a major issue for me also. I just bookmark often.

xScope! That's the one I haven't tried yet and want to. Thanks, Canezilla!

Bookmarks and starting with the native browser make it more bearable.

Browser crashing and flash 10.1

Thought I'd post this in case it's helpful to anyone.

There was talk about flash helping out the browser crash issue, but what's strange i seemed to have the opposite experience.

The stock browser was crashing all the time (Skyfire seemed to work okay), but after I uninstalled the hacked Flash 10.1 and the stock browser is no longer crashing.

Not sure what doesn't run without flash now though, but needed to have a stable browser.

Question Native Browser

I have been trying different combinations of settings on my red EE with ermine to prevent constant crashing. Tonight I turned off javascript and the crashing stopped; turn it back on browser crashes again.

Could someone try this and see if the results are the same. Facebook uses javascript.

All my browsers on pe crashes. ESP if the site is heavy on JavaScript and flash. It just drives me nuts when I'm typing a long reply and it cashes when trying to submit a posting (3x and I stop). I'll try flash. What's the name of the flash package?

I'll try turning off javascript -- always assuming I can figure out how!

Gary, your Pocket eDGe browser crashes?? Mine is totally stable, unlike my EE browser.

I've been meaning to ask you guys what your settings were for your browsers. I've never had a browser issue and all I've used was dolphin HD, which works for some but not others, so I ask, on the edges with browser issues, what is the status of the plugins settings?
also I have JavaScript enabled.

I found how to disable javascript and will now see how long I last.

Edit: Native browser, no javascript, crashed as I posted the above.

Further Edit: Since then (1/2 hour?) I can't force it to crash! Some websites look a little different, but I think I'll leave the javascript off. Thanks, Gunner!

I use Opera. It's my favorite browser, but it always crashes when I try to post to mobileread.

I'll disable javascript and give it a try.
