You know what? I'm in the exact same situation. When you look at my wardrobe, it seems like I have a ton to wear.

And yet, I keep trotting out the same old stuff that everyone is sick of seeing me in. Luckily, I look sexy in anything I wear.

Except when I wear nothing...

This is a very normal thing. Experts say most people only wear 20% out of what they own over and over again. Just hang all your hangers in the wrong direction and when you wear something you make sure its hanger is facing for the easy way out of the closet (right direction). This way you will find out very fast which clothes you wear and which not.

Then you set a timeline for getting rid of the rest. If you start now, you should be good after spring. If you divide your summer and winter clothes you can make two timelines. Sell what you can and make a list of what you REALLY need. Everything you own should be working with at least three other of your clothing items to give you versatility. If done right all you'll need is ten to twelve basics and tons of accessories.

Right now I own 8 Miyake pieces and try to find out if I have all I need for every occasion that arrises.

1 black Madame-T wrap that serves as 3 different blouses and 3 different dresses at least
1 black long trousers
1 black capri trousers
1 long skirt and 1 sweater which are reversible and offer 4 different looks
1 sleeveless olive shirt
1 olive skirt that falls just below the knee
1 black cardigan

I am saving up for a second Madame-T wrap in rust, for which I already made a down payment.

Of the "normal" clothes, like a white shirt and dark jeans, I only own the minimum.

3 dress shirts (white, light pink and light blue) Eterna
1 dark Armani jeans
1 navy velvet blazer
1 red wool blazer
3 riding pants( navy, chocolate and black)
1 cardigan in light grey
3 merino wool sweaters (red, blue, marigold)
1 kilt (black watch tartan)
3 black t-shirts (short sleeves, 3/4 and long sleeved)
1 white t-shirt
1 cream silk blouse Van Laack
And my coats (Burberry and Aquascutum) and down parka.

All jeans, coats, shoes and handbags should be the most expensive you can afford. Shirts and stuff just Gap or the like will make it cost effective.

Some of the nicest things are hand-me-downs/vintage and they show how good the craftmenship used to be, too. And it is always a thrill to find a good piece for a steal

I just came home with suitcases fill to overflowing with new clothes! I left home with one old and broken medium sized suitcase filled with just two of changes of clothes and a lot of presents. I came home with two large new suitcases stuffed! 8 pair of new pants, 4 pair of shorts, a dozen new shirts, and only God knows how many new socks and underwear I bought! Two hats, a new bathing suit, and a new pair of Tevas too!

Almost all my clothes come from either Hardware stores, Camping supply shops, Sporting goods stores, etc., etc., except for the hats. Those came from souvenir shops! Not one fashion item in the bunch... unless you count the socks!

I have wonderfully strong and healthy feet, but then again I don't wear heels or tight shoes. Ever. For years I've worn Crocs or Birkenstocks, with or without socks, or plain sneakers. I do wear a supportive pair of cross-trainers for walking, though.

I was born without that shoes-and-handbag gene.

(BTW, I watched "American Gigolo" with Richard Gere on Netflix last night. I haven't seen that movie in years. The sexiest scene in the movie is when he is matching up expensive outfits getting ready to go out. Flinging beautiful suits, shirts, and ties across the bed with such satisfaction. Love that scene.)

Lucky you, I do have the shoe-gene. I'm only 24 but already I own about 30 pair of shoes Most of them heels. Last week I wore heels to work every day. But then again, I do have expensive quality running shoes. Only one pair so far. I need to go out and buy a second pair soon.

You are not the only one. This made Giorgio Armani's success in the States. AFAIK he has been the most used clothing designer in movies since then. He also began to dress stars for the Oscars after American Gigolo.
